LHH is teaming up with an established law firm in San Francisco, CA in search of a Legal Billing Clerk to support attorneys and internal accounting teams with end-to-end client billing operations.
This role plays a key part in ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant billing for a high-volume practice. The organization offers a collaborative, detail-focused environment where quality and accountability are highly valued. This opportunity provides exposure to complex billing structures and multiple e-billing platforms while supporting experienced legal professionals.
The ideal candidate brings prior legal billing experience and a strong commitment to accuracy and follow-through. They are comfortable managing multiple matters simultaneously, interpreting client billing guidelines, and working closely with attorneys and accounting partners. A service-oriented mindset and confidence navigating e-billing systems are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage monthly billing cycles for assigned clients, matters, and tasks
- Review and edit pre-bills based on attorney input and client-specific billing guidelines
- Confirm matter setup aligns with rate agreements and outside counsel requirements
- Maintain detailed billing instructions and accurate client and matter records
- Submit invoices through various e-billing platforms and resolve rejections or appeals
- Track billing reductions, write-offs, and carry-forwards and escalate issues when appropriate
- Partner with attorneys and accounting teams to resolve billing discrepancies and inquiries
- Monitor budgets and assist with forecasting potential variances
- Prepare billing schedules, reports, and analyses
- Support special billing projects, process improvements, and training initiatives
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of legal billing experience required
- Hands-on experience with multiple e-billing platforms required
- Strong understanding of outside counsel guidelines, complex rate structures, and alternative fee arrangements required
- Experience with legal billing systems such as ProLaw, Aderant, Elite, or 3E required
- High level of accuracy, organization, and attention to detail required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PDF software required
- Associate or bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred

Hours: Full-time
Salary: $70,000-80,000/year, depending on experience
