Job Summary:
Certerra Instrumentation and Monitoring is seeking a motivated Engineering Intern to support geotechnical instrumentation projects in the Austin, Texas region. This position provides hands-on experience in both field and office environments, assisting with the installation, monitoring, and analysis of geotechnical instrumentation systems used on infrastructure and construction projects. The intern will gain exposure to real-world applications of soil mechanics, structural behavior, data analysis, and construction monitoring practices.
Duties:
- Assist with installation of geotechnical instrumentation including inclinometers, piezometers, settlement points, vibration monitors, and data loggers.
- Support field teams during site visits and active construction monitoring operations.
- Collect, review, and organize monitoring data from automated and manual systems.
- Assist in preparation of baseline reports, data summaries, and client deliverables.
- Perform basic data analysis to identify trends in settlement, lateral movement, groundwater levels, and vibration.
- Help maintain calibration records and equipment inventory.
- Adhere to safety protocols and participate in job hazard analysis (JHA) meetings.
- Provide general engineering and administrative support as needed.
Education/Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Engineering, or related field.
- Completion of coursework in soil mechanics and/or structural analysis preferred.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with AutoCAD or data visualization tools is a plus.
- Ability to work outdoors in construction environments and lift equipment as needed.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
Certifications/Licenses:
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Construction Safety Certification.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License with clean driving record.
- First Aid/CPR Certification (preferred)
