Job Overview
A Newark law firm is seeking an organized, proactive Legal Assistant to perform confidential legal support and routine administrative duties for attorneys within a fast-paced Trust & Estates practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Document Production: Type, transcribe, and format legal briefs, correspondence, and confidential memoranda from rough or oral drafts; perform electronic court filing.
- Client & Administration Support: Attend client meetings (on and off-site) to witness document signings; proactively manage Outlook/Interaction contacts and coordinate daily calendars, meetings, and travel arrangements.
- Billing & Office Support: Review, edit, and proof billing sheets; process incoming/outgoing mail, maintain confidential files, and answer/route phone calls.
- Collaboration: Team up with other attorneys and assistants to ensure seamless office coverage.
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience: 3 to 5 years of legal assistance experience.
- Technical Skills: Strong typing skills (minimum 70 WPM) and comprehensive knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook, document redlining, and digital dictation software (e.g., BigHand).
- Knowledge: Deep familiarity with modern legal office practices, legal terminology, document preparation, court procedures, and effective proofreading.
- Soft Skills: Excellent oral/written communication skills; exceptional multitasking and organizational abilities.
