Job Title: General Legal Assistant

Assignment Type: Direct Hire (Full-Time, Permanent)

Pay: $80,000 – $95,000 / Annually (depending on experience)

Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (on-site for the first 90 days, potential for 1 remote day per week thereafter)

Job Description: The General Legal Assistant will provide direct administrative and legal support to multiple attorneys across various practice areas. This role is best suited for a detail-oriented professional with a proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-expectation setting. The ideal candidate will have a professional demeanor, strong communication skills, and a proactive mindset.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Draft, revise, and format legal documents, correspondence, and memos
  • Manage attorney calendars, schedule meetings, and coordinate travel arrangements
  • Prepare and track expense reports, time entries, and client billing documents
  • Maintain both electronic and hard copy files, including uploading/downloading documents to client portals
  • Coordinate with internal teams to manage deadlines and case-related logistics
  • Provide high-quality service in all internal and external communications
  • Assist with document comparisons, signature processes (DocuSign), and legal filings
  • Prepare outgoing mailings (FedEx and others) and monitor tracking
  • Support attorneys in Real Estate Litigation, Healthcare Litigation, and General Litigation
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold professionalism across all functions

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience supporting attorneys in a legal administrative capacity
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with legal document management systems preferred (NetDocs a plus)
  • Must be (or willing to become) a Notary Public – employer will cover certification costs
  • Strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure with a variety of personalities and high expectations
  • Thick skin, strong backbone, and a calm, professional demeanor are essential in this environment
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required

Additional Details:

  • Reports to Legal Support Supervisor
  • Onsite: Washington, DC
  • Full-time role: 40 hours/week
  • Team includes approximately 30–40 attorneys and 5 legal assistants
  • Two-step interview process: virtual screening followed by an in-person panel
