Rack Deployment Lead Hyperscale Data Centers (Traveling)
Job Description
Job DescriptionAbout the Opportunity
Our client, a global hyperscale cloud infrastructure provider, is scaling one of the largest data center build-out programs in the world — and they need execution leaders on the ground to deliver it. As Rack Deployment Lead, you will own building- and campus-level rack deployment execution: readiness, scheduling, installation, energization preparation, issue resolution, and KPI reporting for some of the industry’s biggest active data center projects.
This is not an administrative coordination job. It is a hands-on deployment leadership role where you translate deployment standards, schedules, and field constraints into clear action plans — and drive them to done, safely and predictably, at hyperscale.
Two levels are open: Senior (4+ years) and Principal (6+ years), level-based on experience.
What You’ll Do
• Own execution: Lead rack deployment for assigned buildings or campus workstreams end to end — planning, installation, validation, energization preparation, and handoff.
• Drive the schedule: Own building-level schedules, critical path milestones, readiness dependencies, action registers, blocker logs, and escalation paths.
• Confirm readiness: Validate every prerequisite before field execution — white-space access, cabinet layout, pathways, materials, tooling, safety, network readiness, and site support.
• Coordinate the critical path: Sequence deployment with construction completion, L3/L4 commissioning milestones, Integrated Systems Testing, power and cooling readiness, and logistics.
• Manage field quality: Ensure rack staging, placement, grounding, cabling, labeling, inspection, and energization prep are completed to standard by vendor and internal installation teams.
• Align stakeholders: Act as the single point of contact across construction, facilities operations, engineering, commissioning, network, compute, logistics, security, and vendor teams — removing blockers and keeping execution velocity high.
• Report and improve: Track and report deployment KPIs — schedule adherence, deployment velocity, first-pass success, rework trends, blocker aging — and turn lessons learned into better playbooks, checklists, and standard work.
What You’ll Bring
• 4+ years (Senior) or 6+ years (Principal) in rack deployment, data center deployment, technical field installation, infrastructure delivery, construction coordination, or critical facilities operations.
• Hands-on experience executing or leading rack, server, network, cabling, or power installation in data center, cloud, colocation, telecom, or high-availability environments.
• Strong grasp of data center deployment dependencies: construction completion, power and cooling readiness, commissioning milestones, access controls, materials, logistics, and operational handoff.
• Experience building deployment schedules, readiness trackers, critical path plans, issue logs, risk registers, and KPI reporting.
• Proven ability to influence construction, facilities, engineering, commissioning, network, logistics, and vendor teams without direct authority.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Operations, Information Systems, Supply Chain, or Project Management preferred — equivalent mission-critical field experience absolutely considered.
Nice to Have
• Hyperscale, cloud, colocation campus, or high-density compute deployment experience.
• Working knowledge of structured cabling, rack power, grounding, labeling, logistics staging, and energization readiness.
• Familiarity with data center power, cooling, BMS/EPMS, physical security, change management, and maintenance windows.
• Tools: Smartsheet, Primavera P6, MS Project, Jira, ServiceNow, CMMS, DCIM, asset/inventory management, or dashboarding tools.
• PMP, CAPM, Six Sigma, Lean, OSHA, or equivalent certification.
Travel & Work Environment
This is a traveling, onsite role. You’ll be assigned to active data center campuses across the Midwest and Southwest (Michigan, Wisconsin, New Mexico, and Texas today), with assignments shifting as programs move from construction through commissioning, deployment, and handoff. Expect to walk large facilities, work in white-space and infrastructure areas, and follow full PPE, safety, security, and access-control requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation. Travel and per diem support provided.
Why This Role
• Scale you can’t get anywhere else — deliver the rack execution behind cloud capacity used around the world.
• A technically rigorous environment alongside experienced construction, commissioning, facilities, network, and deployment teams.
• A culture built on safety, ownership, execution discipline, and continuous improvement.
• Long-term career growth across cloud infrastructure, data center deployment, and construction-to-operations handoff.
