Sr. HVAC Inspector

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
This senior position is responsible for all stages of HVAC inspections in resident and commercial buildings.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Evaluates and modifies permitting procedure as necessary. This duty is performed daily.
2. Conducts on-site HVAC inspections. This duty is performed daily.
3. Interprets and explains codes as needed. This duty is performed daily.
4. Performs final inspections. This duty is performed weekly.
5. Notifies contractors, sub-contractors and property owners of code violations. This duty is performed weekly.
6. Checks to ensure that contractors are state licensed and that proper permits have been issued. This duty is performed weekly.
7. Reviews plans for construction to ensure proper code compliance is followed. This duty is performed weekly.
8. Performs on-site inspections of foundation and framing to ensure code compliance is followed. This duty is performed weekly.
9. Inspects and enforces building/structure and sign setbacks. This duty is performed weekly.
10. Reviews permitting and inspection procedures with contractors. This duty is performed weekly.
11. Completes all paperwork associated with the inspection process. This duty is performed daily.
12. Answers phone inquiries from builders and contractors. This duty is performed daily.
13. Operating a city vehicle is required for the essential functions.
14. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school or GED, plus specialized schooling and/or on the job education in a specific skill area, e.g. data processing, clerical/administrative, equipment operation, etc., plus 5 years or more related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions in person-to-person and small group situations with customers, clients, general public and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to prepare and interpret bar graphs.
CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of known variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram formats.
