Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Medical Assistant program graduate or previous Medical Assisting experience required.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Strong computer, communication, and clinical skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician.
  • Maintain patient flow and document review of systems, vital signs, medical history, and medications.
  • Accurately record patient information in the EMR and prepare charts by scanning, abstracting, and reviewing medical records.
  • Obtain diagnostic test results, hospital reports, and other records from outside facilities as needed.
  • Process medication refills and pre-authorizations while communicating with patients, pharmacies, and insurance companies.
  • Maintain patient samples and medications, dispose of expired medications, and order medical supplies as needed.
  • Prepare and maintain clean, fully supplied examination rooms.
  • Obtain pertinent medical information to support medical decision-making according to office protocols.
  • Answer calls, respond to MyChart messages, schedule appointments, and check patients in and out.
  • Manage EMR/Practice Management in-baskets, workflow logs, work queues, and related office tasks.
  • Complete pre-certifications for prescriptions, procedures, and surgeries as needed.
  • Operate EKGs, cardiac monitors, and other equipment to perform routine diagnostic tests.
  • Perform clinical duties such as phlebotomy and cast removal as assigned.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with safety, legal, quality, and patient experience standards.
  • May assist with training new employees or coordinate/oversee work queues in the office.
