Join Our Team as a Part-Time Guest Service Associate at HI San Francisco Downtown!
Would you love to interact with travelers from around the world and help create a welcoming, community-oriented environment in the heart of San Francisco? HI San Francisco Downtown, located just steps from Union Square, is currently hiring a part-time Guest Service Associate to support front desk operations and provide exceptional guest service.
We’re looking for someone who is flexible and dependable, with the ability to work a mix of shifts—including overnights, weekends, and holidays—as needed.
Position Details:

Pay: $19.50 per hour (+$1 differential for overnight shifts)

Shifts: Various, including overnights (11:30 PM–8 AM), mornings (6:45 AM–3 PM), and evenings (3 PM–11 PM)

Type: Part Time, approximately 24 hours/week

Key Responsibilities:
-
Welcome, register, and orient guests with cultural sensitivity and professionalism
-
Manage reservations via phone, email, and online platforms
-
Conduct hostel tours and promote guest feedback
-
Maintain hostel security and follow safety protocols
-
Complete accurate shift reports, financial transactions, and logbooks

Assist with various operational tasks such as laundry, cleaning, food prep, and occasional light bookkeeping

Promote HI USA, local attractions, and the hostel’s services to guests
-
Positively represent HI USA to guests, callers, and community partners

Uphold the mission of HI USA: “To help all, especially the young, gain a greater understanding of the world and its people through hostelling”

Perform other duties as assigned by hostel management
Skills & Qualifications:
-
High school diploma or GED
-
Customer service experience; excellent communication skills; comfort handling cash

Able to remain calm and professional in guest-facing situations or emergencies
-
Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills
-
Able to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
-
Proficiency with basic computer programs (MS Word, Excel, Outlook)

Willingness to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overnights as required

Preferred: Experience in hostelling or travel/hospitality environments

Preferred: Ability to speak a second language

Preferred: First aid and CPR certification (can be provided)
Physical Requirements:

Regularly required to sit, use hands and arms

Frequently required to stand, walk, talk, and hear

Occasionally required to climb or balance; must be able to lift/move up to 50 lbs

Vision requirements include close, peripheral, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus

Moderate noise level in the work environment
