Job Title: Engineering Technician
Job Description
The Engineering Technician interprets engineering prints and models, develops CNC programs, and sets up Swiss and milling machine centers to produce high-quality components. This role focuses on creating capable, cost-effective, and sustainable manufacturing processes while supporting continuous improvement, quality assurance, and Lean initiatives in a growing medical device manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Interpret engineering prints and 3D models to create accurate CNC programs for Swiss and milling machine centers.
- Set up CNC machines and machining centers to produce components that meet specification and quality requirements.
- Select cutting tools that provide cost-effective tool life and fully utilize tooling capabilities.
- Develop capable, cost-effective, and sustainable machining processes for new and existing products.
- Write clear work instructions and procedures to support manufacturing processes and ensure repeatability.
- Apply a full understanding of G-code to create, modify, and optimize CNC programs.
- Advocate for and implement high quality standards and Lean manufacturing principles throughout daily work.
- Assess, interpret, and communicate technical specifications and requirements to all relevant departments.
- Identify, plan, and complete continuous improvement projects, including cycle time reduction and perishable tooling selection and cost reduction.
- Create, coordinate, and document engineering tests to validate processes and tooling.
- Perform quality assurance tests and inspections to verify compliance with specifications and regulatory requirements.
- Assist in or lead the development of tooling designs and CNC programming for complex parts.
- Modify bills of materials (BOM) and bills of operations (BOO) within the ERP system through established change control processes.
- Assist with costing and quoting activities related to tooling and process development.
- Troubleshoot and resolve daily manufacturing and machining issues in alignment with Lean structures and problem-solving methods.
- Maintain and improve machining and secondary operational processes to ensure consistent performance and output.
- Support process validation activities and documentation as needed for medical device manufacturing.
- Collaborate closely with engineering, production, and quality teams to support new product introduction and ongoing production.
Essential Skills
- 2–3 years of experience in a technical field, preferably related to CNC machining or manufacturing engineering.
- Hands-on experience with CNC process improvements, troubleshooting, validation, and change control.
- Proficiency with CAD and CAM software, preferably SolidWorks, NX, and Esprit.
- Experience with CNC programming, including G-code for Swiss and milling machine centers.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, models, and technical specifications.
- Experience with fixture and tooling design and engineering for machining applications.
- Strong understanding of machining equipment, milling operations, and maintenance considerations.
- Proficient PC skills in a Windows environment, especially Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for documentation and cross-functional collaboration.
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills to work effectively with engineering, production, and quality teams.
- Experience applying continuous improvement and continuous process improvement methods in a manufacturing setting.
- Familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles and basic Lean tools.
- Ability to perform quality assurance tests and support validation activities in a regulated environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in the design and selection of fixturing and tooling for complex precision parts.
- Work history working in a precision manufacturing shop environment, ideally in medical device or medical technology.
- LEAN or Six Sigma training with demonstrated application in process or quality improvement projects.
- Experience working within an ISO-regulated environment, such as ISO standards for medical device manufacturing.
- Exposure to ERP systems and experience modifying BOM and BOO through formal change control.
- Familiarity with medical device manufacturing requirements and documentation practices.
- Experience with SolidWorks, NX, and Esprit specifically for CAD/CAM and machining workflows.
- Ability to support costing and quoting activities related to tooling and process development.
- Comfort working in a growing organization where engineering capabilities and processes are scaling.

This is a Permanent position based out of Minneapolis, MN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $91500.00/yr.
