Project Manager - Manufacturing

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager - Manufacturing to lead capital and process improvement projects within our food and consumer packaged goods (CPG) manufacturing operations. The role is responsible for driving projects from concept through installation, commissioning, and handover, ensuring on-time delivery, on-budget performance, and compliance with food safety and quality standards. The ideal candidate combines strong project management discipline with practical manufacturing and food-industry experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end delivery of capital, process improvement, and equipment upgrade projects across manufacturing sites, from scope definition through commissioning and closeout.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans, schedules, budgets, and risk registers; report project status to stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams including engineering, operations, quality, procurement, maintenance, and external contractors to ensure alignment and timely execution.
  • Manage vendor selection, contract negotiation, and supplier performance to ensure deliverables meet technical specifications, cost targets, and delivery schedules.
  • Ensure all projects comply with food safety regulations and standards (e.g., HACCP, SQF, FDA) and support quality assurance activities during installation and startup.
  • Identify and lead opportunities for process optimization, waste reduction, and productivity improvements using lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Establish and enforce safety protocols during project execution, promoting a culture of safety among project teams and contractors.
  • Prepare and present regular project updates, financial forecasts, and lessons-learned reports; ensure thorough documentation for handover to operations.
  • Perform post-implementation reviews to validate project outcomes, measure performance against objectives, and drive corrective actions where necessary.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior project staff and support development of project management capabilities within the organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Food Science, Supply Chain, Business, or related field; Masters degree or industry certifications a plus.
  • 5+ years of hands-on project management experience in manufacturing, preferably within CPG or food manufacturing environments.
  • Proven track record delivering capital projects and process improvements on time and within budget.
  • Strong knowledge of food manufacturing processes, food safety regulations (HACCP, SQF, FDA), and quality systems.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent is preferred.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, continuous improvement tools, and root cause analysis.
  • Proficient with project scheduling and tracking tools (MS Project, Primavera) and ERP systems; strong financial acumen for budget and cost control.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills; ability to influence cross-functional teams.
  • Willingness to travel to manufacturing sites as required and to work flexible hours to support project milestones.
