Job Title: Diesel Mechanic

Job Purpose
The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for performing preventive and corrective maintenance on the company’s diesel trucks, forklifts, and equipment, ensuring their safe, efficient, and continuous operation. The mechanic also supports daily vehicle inspections to verify that each unit is in optimal condition before departure and upon return to the plant.
Key Responsibilities

Perform inspections on trucks before departure and upon return, verifying mechanical conditions, oil levels, brakes, lights, tires, and other safety components.

Execute preventive maintenance programs according to the schedule established by the Maintenance Department.

Diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical systems, suspension, steering, and cooling systems.

Provide on-site or roadside support across the island in case of mechanical breakdowns or emergencies.

Document all repairs, parts used, and work hours in maintenance logs or electronic records.

Coordinate with the Maintenance Supervisor for parts, tools, or material requests.

Comply with all occupational safety and environmental regulations established by the company and local authorities.

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment at all times.

Report any issues that may compromise safety or vehicle performance promptly.

Collaborate with the maintenance team on special projects, fleet improvements, or technical upgrades.
Job Requirements
Education and Experience:
-
High school diploma or equivalent (required).
-
Technical certification in diesel or automotive mechanics (preferred).
-
Minimum of two (2) years of verifiable experience in diesel engine maintenance and repair.
Knowledge and Skills:

Strong skills in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines (Cummins, Caterpillar, Detroit, etc.).

Knowledge of electrical, electronic, and air brake systems.

Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, electrical and mechanical diagrams.

Proficiency in the use of hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

Must hold a valid driver’s license; Category #9 License is considered a plus.
Additional Requirements:

Availability to work weekends or extended shifts as required by operations.

Willingness to travel across the island to assist with truck breakdowns or off-site repairs.
