Location: Remote / Hybrid (as permitted by contract) within the Washington DC Metro Area (60 miles)
Experience Level: Senior (7+ years)
Salary Range: $175-185K
Clearance: Able to Obtain Public Trust

POSITION SUMMARY
World Services LLC is seeking an experienced Data Platform Engineer (Cloud Infrastructure) to support the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) as part of an enterprise data and analytics modernization effort.
This role is responsible for designing, operating, and continuously improving scalable, reliable, and secure cloud-based data platforms that support mission-critical analytics and data pipelines.
The Data Platform Engineer ensures platform stability, performance, and cost efficiency while meeting federal operational, security, and governance requirements.
Operating within a regulated federal environment, this position focuses on platform scalability and reliability to ensure uninterrupted access to data services that support Coast Guard mission operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Cloud Data Platform Engineering
• Design, build, and operate cloud-based data platforms supporting enterprise-scale ETL/ELT pipelines and analytics workloads.
• Configure and manage Databricks environments, including compute, storage, networking, and workspace settings.
• Ensure high availability, scalability, and fault tolerance of data platforms.
Support platform security control implementation, aligning with the project DevSecOps Engineer
Platform Reliability and Operations
• Implement monitoring, alerting, and operational best practices to maintain platform health.
• Support incident response, root cause analysis, and continuous reliability improvements.
• Meet mission-critical uptime and service reliability requirements.
Performance and Cost Optimization
• Monitor and tune performance of Spark-based and cloud-native data workloads.
• Implement cost management and optimization strategies for compute, storage, and data movement.
• Proactively identify performance bottlenecks and capacity risks.
Security and Integration
• Partner with DevSecOps teams to support secure platform configurations and compliance requirements.
• Integrate data platforms with CI/CD pipelines, identity and access management, and network controls.
• Support secure data integrations across cloud services and systems.
Collaboration and Support
• Work closely with Senior Data Engineers to support scalable and reliable data pipelines.
• Partner with Analytics Engineers to ensure analytics workloads perform reliably.
• Provide platform engineering expertise across cross-functional teams.
• Align with the agency’s data Program Management Office (PMO) related requirements and governance standards.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• 5+ years of experience in cloud platform engineering, data infrastructure, or similar roles.
• Strong experience with major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
• Hands-on experience operating Databricks or Spark-based data platforms.
• Experience with cloud storage, networking, and resource optimization.
• Strong understanding of platform reliability, monitoring, and performance tuning.
• Experience supporting regulated, mission-critical, or federal systems.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience supporting U.S. Coast Guard, DHS, DoD, or other federal civilian agencies.
• Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM).
• Experience with observability and monitoring tools.
• Experience supporting large-scale, multi-team data environments.
Familiarity with DoD and federal security frameworks and requirements
EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field preferred. Equivalent professional experience may be substituted for education.
