Job DescriptionAbout the Role:Garden District Animal Hospital is looking for a passionate and dedicated Veterinary Assistant to join our caring team in Baton Rouge, LA! Responsibilities:
- Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians during exams, procedures, and surgeries
- Restrain and handle animals safely and compassionately during treatments
- Prepare exam rooms and maintain a clean, sanitary clinical environment
- Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian
- Collect and process laboratory samples including blood, urine, and fecal specimens
- Communicate with pet owners regarding post-visit care instructions and follow-ups
- Monitor hospitalized patients and report changes in condition to veterinary staff
Requirements:
- Prior experience in a veterinary clinic, animal shelter, or related animal care setting preferred
- Comfortable handling animals of all sizes, breeds, and temperaments
- Strong communication skills and a client-friendly, compassionate demeanor
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask effectively
- Basic knowledge of veterinary terminology, procedures, and animal anatomy
- Reliable, punctual, and a strong team player
- High school diploma or equivalent required; veterinary assistant certification a plus
