The German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) is seeking a dedicated and skilled Systems Administrator to join our dynamic team. As a key contributor to our transatlantic mission, you will play a vital role in maintaining and enhancing our IT infrastructure across our Washington, DC headquarters and multiple European offices. This position offers an exciting opportunity to support a globally engaged organization committed to fostering cooperation and understanding between North America and Europe through innovative technology solutions.


Key Responsibilities:

- Manage, monitor, and maintain GMF’s IT infrastructure across all locations, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.

- Implement and uphold cybersecurity protocols in compliance with GDPR and other relevant regulations, including threat monitoring and regular security audits.

- Support and administer Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Azure, and AWS environments to facilitate seamless collaboration and data management.

- Provide 24/7 in-house IT support to staff, troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues promptly and effectively.

- Collaborate with global teams to support CRM systems and data visualization platforms, ensuring data integrity and accessibility.

- Conduct regular system audits, vulnerability assessments, and security updates to safeguard organizational data and infrastructure.

- Assist in planning and implementing IT projects aligned with organizational goals and technological advancements.

- Document IT procedures, configurations, and policies to ensure consistency and compliance across all offices.


Skills and Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.

- Proven experience in systems administration, preferably within an international or nonprofit organization.

- Strong knowledge of Windows Server, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Azure, AWS, and network infrastructure.

- Experience with cybersecurity best practices, GDPR compliance, threat detection, and incident response.

- Familiarity with CRM platforms and data visualization tools.

- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse, global teams.

- Ability to support a 24/7 operational environment and prioritize tasks accordingly.

Requirements:Technical Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience managing and maintaining IT infrastructure across multiple office locations (U.S. and Europe).
  • Strong proficiency in:
    • Microsoft 365 (Exchange, Teams, OneDrive, etc.)
    • SharePoint administration and customization
    • Azure and/or AWS cloud environments
    • Windows Server and Active Directory
    • Endpoint management (Intune, SCCM, etc.)
  • Experience with CRM platforms and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI).
  • Familiarity with networking protocols, firewalls, VPNs, and remote access solutions.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices, including threat monitoring and incident response.

Compliance & Security

  • Understanding of global data protection regulations, especially GDPR.
  • Experience supporting audit processes, including documentation and remediation.
  • Ability to implement and maintain security policies, access controls, and encryption standards.

Support & Operations

  • Ability to provide 24/7 in-house IT support or coordinate with global support teams.
  • Experience in helpdesk management, ticketing systems, and user training.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across hardware, software, and network issues.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Ability to work closely with cross-functional teams across GMF’s offices in Europe and the U.S.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience supporting hybrid work environments and remote collaboration tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified, AWS Certified, CompTIA Security+, ITIL).
  • Experience working in international or nonprofit organizations.
  • Fluency in English; additional European languages (e.g., German, French) are a plus.
