About the Role:
The Senior Fleet Mechanic plays a critical role in ensuring the operational readiness and safety of a diverse fleet of vehicles, equipment and parts for a growing Pool Construction and Maintenance Company. This position is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems to maximize fleet efficiency and minimize downtime. The Senior Fleet Mechanic will lead by example, providing technical expertise and guidance to junior mechanics while adhering to all safety and regulatory standards. This role requires a proactive approach to preventative maintenance and the ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical issues under tight deadlines. Ultimately, the Senior Fleet Mechanic ensures that all fleet assets are maintained to the highest standards, supporting the organization's transportation and operational goals.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in fleet vehicle maintenance and repair.
- Proven expertise in diagnosing and repairing mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems on commercial vehicles.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic equipment.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience in a fleet maintenance environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) in medium/heavy truck or fleet maintenance.
- Experience working with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Familiarity with environmental and safety regulations related to fleet operations.
- Technical training or associate degree in automotive or diesel technology.
- Bilingual English/Spanish.
- Experience using inventory management system.
Responsibilities:
- Perform comprehensive inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on a wide range of fleet vehicles including trucks, vans, and specialized equipment.
- Conduct routine and preventative maintenance to ensure vehicles meet safety and performance standards.
- Lead and mentor junior mechanics, providing training and technical support to enhance team capabilities.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair work performed, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with pool service technicians and supervisors to schedule maintenance and prioritize repairs to minimize operational disruptions.
- Ensure mechanic shop and operation inventory is accurately tracked in inventory management system.
- Maintain accurate records for all vehicles to ensure license plates and registrations are up to date at all times.

Strong problem-solving abilities enable the mechanic to troubleshoot electrical and hydraulic systems, often under time-sensitive conditions. Communication skills are essential for effectively mentoring junior staff and coordinating with fleet management to prioritize maintenance tasks. Organizational skills are applied to maintain detailed service records and manage parts inventory, supporting compliance and operational efficiency. Additionally, knowledge of safety protocols and regulatory standards is critical to maintaining a safe work environment and ensuring all fleet vehicles meet legal requirements.
