Job Description

Job Description

Utah First Credit Union is seeking a forward thinking, collaborative Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to join our Senior Management Team in a full-time capacity (40 hours per week). The CTO reports directly to the President and CEO and plays a key leadership role in advancing the Credit Union's technology capabilities, delivery discipline, and overall operational effectiveness.

This is an in-office position based at Utah First Credit Union's headquarters. Regular, in person presence is expected to effectively lead teams, collaborate with senior leadership, and support the organization's culture and operations.

This role partners closely with the Executive Team to support enterprise priorities and strategic initiatives while remaining focused on leading a strong, reliable, and well governed information technology organization. The position emphasizes leadership, execution, and outcomes, ensuring technology is a dependable and enabling force across the organization.

ROLE OVERVIEW

The CTO is responsible for leading Utah First Credit Union's information technology organization, ensuring that systems, platforms, and initiatives are aligned with enterprise strategy, growth objectives, and regulatory expectations.

The CTO establishes clear priorities, governance, and delivery practices that support organizational growth and scalability, translating technology initiatives into clear, measurable business outcomes. Serving as a trusted senior management partner to the Executive Team, the CTO communicates clearly, sets realistic expectations, and ensures technology initiatives are delivered with consistency and accountability.

This leader will build and lead a high performing, traditional IT organization, establish strong project management and governance disciplines, and maintain effective partnerships with internal teams and external vendors. The CTO supports thoughtful, practical innovation while maintaining high standards for system reliability, security, and resilience.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The CTO will contribute to enterprise priorities and long-range planning through a technology and delivery lens.

Lead a disciplined IT organization with a strong emphasis on project management, prioritization, and execution, ensuring initiatives are well scoped, properly governed, and delivered on time, within budget, and with appropriate governance.

Provide leadership and oversight for enterprise technology operations, cybersecurity, system availability, and business continuity, ensuring compliance with regulatory and risk management expectations.

Guide technology strategy and investment decisions, balancing innovation with operational stability and long-term sustainability.

Build, mentor, and lead high performing technology leaders and teams, creating a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Provide oversight of core systems and strategic vendor relationships, including Symitar and Jack Henry, ensuring strong performance, scalability, and value realization.

LEADERSHIP AND TECHNICAL APPROACH

This role emphasizes leadership and execution rather than hands on engineering. The CTO is expected to be technology fluent and capable of guiding complex initiatives, while leveraging leaders with deep engineering expertise to support architecture and advanced technical design.

The successful candidate will bring strength in leading people, managing complexity, and delivering results through others, particularly in a growing organization experiencing change.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in information technology, business, or a related field.

Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership experience in information technology, preferably within a financial institution or regulated environment.

Demonstrated success leading IT teams through growth, change, or organizational transformation.

Strong experience in project management, vendor management, and cross functional collaboration.

Experience with Symitar and Jack Henry platforms preferred.

Ability to align technology initiatives with business objectives, regulatory requirements, and member expectations.

Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technology concepts into business relevant terms.

WHY UTAH FIRST

This role offers the opportunity to be significant in a growing organization, helping to shape how technology supports Utah First Credit Union's next phase of growth.

The CTO will have the ability to create meaningful change, strengthen core capabilities, and leave a lasting impact on the organization, its employees, and its members.

BENEFITS

Salary will be based on experience. Utah First Credit Union offers a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, medical, dental, and vision coverage, 20 PTO days, 11 paid holidays, a 401(k) plan, and company contributions to a Health Savings Account.

ABOUT UTAH FIRST CREDIT UNION

The Utah First story began in 1935, in the midst of the Great Depression. A group of German immigrants were having a difficult time finding anyone to help them with the loans they needed to bring their families to America. They banded together to form a grassroots credit union that would serve all members of the community. Here, people found the positive answers and opportunities they needed to build their future.

Today, Utah First continues to grow while staying true to its roots, focused on community, relationships, and creating meaningful opportunities for members and employees alike.

DISCLOSURES

Utah First Credit Union is an Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action Employer and does not discriminate in employment based on any legally protected status.
