Position Summary
The IT Technician supports the company's daily operations by maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving all information technology systems that directly impact compounding pharmacy operations. This position ensures reliable performance of computer systems, pharmacy software (including prescription management systems such as LifeFile), labeling and printing systems, and network infrastructure that supports production, compliance, and communication within the pharmacy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Provide daily technical support to pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and administrative staff.
· Install, configure, and maintain computer hardware, software, printers, scanners, and networked label systems.
· Manage user accounts, access levels, and permissions for pharmacy systems (LifeFile, UPS/FedEx shipping portals, etc.).
· Troubleshoot and resolve issues with workstation connectivity, label printers, scanners, and barcode systems used during prescription filling and shipping.
· Oversee and maintain pharmacy security systems, including user access badges, cameras, and workstation logins.
· Perform routine system maintenance and data backups to ensure the protection and integrity of pharmacy records.
· Work with external vendors (e.g., LifeFile support, hardware suppliers, network service providers) to resolve escalated technical issues.
· Ensure compliance with HIPAA and all applicable data security standards related to patient and prescription information.
· Maintain logs of all IT service requests, issues, and resolutions.
· Support the setup of new workstations, printers, and equipment for new hires and workstations.
· Assist in implementing system updates, software patches, and new technology tools to improve pharmacy workflow efficiency.
· Provide training to staff on proper use of software, hardware, and IT procedures.
· Collaborate with management to enhance automation, data tracking, and integration between departments (Printing, Compounding, Shipping, etc.)
Qualifications
· High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or Computer Science preferred.
· Minimum of 2 years of IT experience, preferably in a healthcare or pharmacy environment.
· Strong working knowledge of Windows operating systems, network configurations, and hardware setup.
· Experience supporting pharmacy management systems (LifeFile or similar preferred).
· Basic understanding of HIPAA compliance and data protection protocols.
· Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication skills.
· Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements
· Ability to sit, stand, and move between workstations frequently.
· Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds to set up or relocate equipment.
· Manual dexterity for handling small cables and components.
Work Schedule
Full-time position, standard business hours with occasional after-hours or weekend work required for system updates or outages. Overtime may be required based on business needs.
