POSITION SUMMARY

Performs diagnostic analysis of customer vehicles specializing in wheel-alignments (two and four wheel)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

  • Aligns wheels, axles, frames, torsion bars and steering mechanisms of automotive vehicles
  • Drives automotive vehicles onto wheel alignment rack and tests vehicles for faulty wheel alignments, bent axles, worn ball joints, bent steering rods, etc., using alignment-testing machine. Performs necessary repair work based on the diagnosis
  • Dismounts and mounts tires. Performs wheel balances by placing wheel on balancing machine to determine where counterweights must be added to balance wheel. Hammers counterweights onto rim of wheel
  • Performs miscellaneous diagnostic and service work, such as state inspections, installing shock absorbers, lubrications and tune-ups of automotive vehicles.
  • Straightens frame using hydraulic jack, chassis aligner and acetylene torch

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

  • Executes miscellaneous assignments and job duties as required
  • Performs general housekeeping/clean-up responsibilities

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge

  • Length of training to perform at minimum levels: 1 to 2 years
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • State inspection license required
  • Knowledge of automotive systems required

Experience

  • 1+ years’ experience as an alignment technician

OR

  • Successful graduate of applicable post high school vocational program
  • Proficient use of tools and equipment used in the repair and service of automotive vehicles such as hand tools, power tools, mechanical testing equipment, automotive hydraulic hoist, tire changer, wheel alignment rack, wheel balancer machine, welding torch (acetylene/oxygen), sand blasting machine, air conditioner compressor, dynamometer, brake drum lathe, buffer, hydraulic jack, testing equipment, alignment testing machine and other related tools

COMPENSATION

  • $17 - $25 per hour plus commission

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Works 40+ hours per week
  • Exposure to extremes in temperature due to nature and activity of business
  • Chemical exposure/contact to various solvents, lubricants and fluids used in the repair and service of automotive vehicles
