Job DescriptionGENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB DUTIESServes as the shift leader providing a critical safety management presence during the highest-risk operating periods, ensuring safety, training, and operational support remain available after normal business hours. Supports transit operations by overseeing safety investigations, drug and alcohol testing, critical safety and security response, field safety observations, maintenance safety checks, refresher and remedial training, and compliance with agency policies, FTA, OSHA, and emergency operations. Strengthens GoTriangle's Safety Management System through field engagement, hazard identification and mitigation, coaching, and corrective action to reduce preventable safety events.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Acts on behalf of GoTriangle Management after normal business hours, exercising independent judgment to oversee safety and training operations, ensure employee and customer safety, and maintain compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and agency policies.Serves as the primary after-hours Safety representative, responding to major collisions, security incidents, emergencies, and other critical operational events while coordinating with emergency responders and management.Resolves day-to-day operational safety issues using sound judgment, escalating matters requiring management notification.Serves as the primary after-hours contact for safety and security, ensuring required documentation, workers' compensation files, and reports are completed and submitted.Oversees the FTA post-accident and reasonable suspicion Drug and Alcohol Testing Program after hours, ensuring timely testing, documentation, chain-of-custody compliance, and reporting.Acts on Management's behalf during investigations, counseling, coaching, refresher training, disciplinary, and corrective action activities following safety events.Provides initial, remedial, and refresher safety training for supervisors on policies, FTA drug and alcohol requirements, de-escalation, investigations, documentation, emergency response, and supervisory responsibilities.Performs field safety oversight of fixed-route and paratransit operations to identify hazards, evaluate performance, verify compliance, conduct ride checks, and observe customer service.Conducts safety inspections of transit facilities, identifies hazards, and coordinates corrective actions with appropriate departments.Monitors maintenance facilities for unsafe conditions and documents corrective actions.Conducts behind-the-wheel observations and field training emphasizing defensive driving, hazard recognition, customer interaction, and compliance.Reviews onboard cameras, surveillance, telematics, and operational data to support investigations, identify trends, and provide coaching.Maintains shift documentation, hazard logs, pending reports, and daily summaries for Safety Management.Conducts routine observations of department and contractor activities to identify and address visible safety concerns.Inspects life safety equipment, documents deficiencies, and coordinates corrective action.Coordinates with Security, Operations, Maintenance, Facilities, Communications, and emergency responders during incidents and emergencies.Maintains safety records, tracks corrective actions, and prepares comprehensive daily shift summaries.Reviews safety trends, operational performance, complaints, and observations to recommend improvements.Recommends budget priorities for safety equipment, training, emergency response resources, and operational improvements.Develops effective relationships with employees, contractors, regulatory agencies, and emergency responders to promote a positive safety culture.Other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTSAssociate's or bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Business Administration, or other related field (preferred).Five (5) years of experience required in Transit Operations, Safety, Training, or supervisory experience in transit or in a closely related industry. Two (2) years of leadership and management experience.Familiarity with OSHA, ADA, and FMCSA regulations applicable to transit.Strong accident investigation, report writing, coaching, and de-escalation and conflict-resolution skills.Ability to respond effectively to emergencies and work independently during evening hours.Six (6) years' driving experience, possession of a good driving record, and the ability to drive in all types of adverse weather.Must have or be able to obtain a class B Commercial Driver's License with passenger endorsement.Must be able to meet the Department of Transportation physical requirements and maintain a DOT card.Demonstrate the ability to maintain excellent attendance, including during adverse weather.Portray a positive and professional attitude and the ability to work well in a team environment.Demonstrate strong leadership and management skills and the ability to use good judgment in decision-making.Ability to develop program objectives and work independently on several programs or projects simultaneously.Demonstrates an exceptional level of interpersonal skills required to effectively communicate with government officials, staff, and the public.A working understanding of PCs, including Microsoft Office Packages.Must be available to work in all types of weather conditions, nights, weekends, and holidays. An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the above-stated minimums, excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications. Working Conditions: Works in an environment where there is some exposure to dust, noise, or extreme temperatures. May be moderately exposed to unpleasant working conditions including dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals while visiting GoTriangle operating facilities, during which the incumbent should observe all policies and procedures, safety precautions and regulations, and use all protective clothing and devices provided. Physical Requirements: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
