Field Technician

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Field Technician performs semi-skilled tasks related to the inspection and maintenance of various infrastructure, including streets, multi-use paths, sidewalks, bridges, roadsides, drainage systems, and signage. As an entry-level position, the incumbents receive training to develop skills and proficiency in all duties required of a journey level position.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

- Inspects contractors work related to the maintenance and repair of roadways, sidewalks, pavement marking and signage, drainage ponds, medians and other infrastructure as needed.
- Advises supervisor on topics and projects related to or assignments. Provides supervisor with status reports on projects and tasks assigned.
- Provides field location services for City underground fiber, traffic systems, lighting, and storm sewer systems as part of our 811-response team.
- Participates in and complies with the Departmental Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy. Complies with and ensures compliance with all organizational values, policies, procedures and all verbal written instructions.
- Will be part of the on-call team with the City of Lone Tree Public Works, serving as on-call representative on a rotating 1-week assignment with other operations staff.
- Provides assistance to the Facility Manager on maintenance and operations tasks related to the Citys facilities.
- Assists other sections within the department as directed by the Supervisor.
- Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (Required in all job descriptions)
- Takes responsibility for own actions when errors and mistakes occur
- Cleans and fuels assigned vehicles and equipment at the end of each shift
- Assists with installation and maintenance of pavement, drainage systems, pavement markings, public rights-of-way, infrastructure, traffic control signs, barricades, and flagging
- Applies industry standards and codes to the completion of daily tasks and projects
- Operates hand tools, vehicles and equipment following all safety precautions
- Assists in preparations and setup for City-wide and department special events which may require flexed scheduling and working on holidays
- Accepts new work assignments
- Cooperates with co-workers, supervisor and other departments to foster the spirit of a team environment
- Aids co-workers when needed
- Works with other City employees to achieve City goals
- Communicates ideas clearly and respectfully to improve processes

- Skill in the safe and proper use of tools and equipment necessary to perform various maintenance and repair tasks
- Ability to read, understand, and complete written and verbal requests and work assignments
- Ability to read and understand maintenance text to identify repair components and to complete operational tasks
- Ability to perform on-call duties as assigned
- Ability to communicate effectively with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds
- Ability to take initiative and work efficiently to complete tasks with limited supervision
- Promotes a culture of safety in the workplace and reports safety hazards when observed
- Must have excellent Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate and interact with all levels of personnel and visitors of the City of Lone Tree.
- Demonstrated personal effectiveness, credibility, thoroughness, flexibility, and collaboration skills in adhering to and advancing the Citys vision, mission and values and ethical standards.
Education/Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent required; some municipal maintenance experience preferred.
- Must possess a valid Colorado driver's license.
- Applicable certifications may be required at City expense.
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
- The ability to successfully complete a background including but not limited to drug screen, criminal history search and MVR check is required.
Hazards:
- Frequently exposed to safety hazards from equipment operated, manual labor, and work in high traffic areas. Job frequently requires physical effort requiring lifting of objects weighing over 50 pounds.
- Requires shift, weekend or off hour/day work; may receive calls on a 24hour basis; and may be required to appear onsite as a result of an emergency situation during off duty hours.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, night vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Full Time, Non-exempt
Salary Range: $28.56 - $42.79 / Hour
Hiring Range: $28.56 - $35.68 / Hour
