Hooks Meng & Clement is seeking an efficient and highly organized Legal Assistant to support our attorneys and help ensure the continued success of our growing Carson City office. This role is integral to maintaining the firm’s day-to-day operations and delivering exceptional service to clients.
The Legal Assistant will be responsible for preparing legal documents, managing office correspondence, and providing administrative support. Duties include answering phone calls and emails, scheduling and coordinating meetings, and maintaining accurate calendaring for attorneys.
Hooks Meng & Clement focuses its practice on Workers’ Compensation Insurance Defense, OSHA Employer Representation, Subrogation, Subsequent Injury, and Industrial Insurance Litigation. We represent employers, insurers, third-party administrators, and related entities. Compensation:
$45,000+ Salary
Responsibilities:
- Conduct legal research, when necessary, with guidance from attorneys and paralegals
- Responsible for supporting attorneys by performing a variety of administrative duties to ensure the firm and cases run smoothly
- Work with attorneys and paralegals to create various legal documents, including pleadings, motions, subpoenas, affidavits, contracts, and briefs for case preparation
- Strong communication skills are required for frequent interaction with court personnel, opposing counsel, and clients
- Organize files and upload documents to the appropriate matter while using case management software
- Keen attention to detail to proofread documents as needed
- Prepare packets for hearings and courts
Qualifications:
- Must be able to type 50 wpm or faster with a high rate of accuracy
- Strong organizational and communication skills with a courteous and professional demeanor
- Proficiency in the use of standard office software, including all Microsoft Office products, as well as experience with legal software, billing software, electronic case management, and docketing programs, is preferred, but not required
- Experience in the legal industry and familiarity with legal documents and terminology are highly desired
- Ability to provide an excellent customer experience, utilizing strong customer service for frequent interaction with court personnel, opposing counsel, and clients
- Ability to effectively prioritize and meet deadlines
- Ability to work as a team with attorneys and other staff, as well as discipline to work independently
- Must live in the Northern Nevada area, as this is an in-office position
