Job Description
Senior Software Engineer (Backend)
San Francisco, CA | In-person (5 days/week)
Compensation: $150,000-$250,000 base + equity + benefits (level dependent)
The Opportunity
We’re working with a fast-growing, venture-backed AI company building the next generation of AI agents for the insurance industry. Insurance is a trillion-dollar market that has barely scratched the surface of what AI can unlock, and this team is already proving what’s possible. The company has raised $30M+ from tier-one investors and has grown revenue 10x in the last year. They’re already working with some of the largest insurance carriers in the world, including a recently signed top-five global insurer.
They’re now hiring a high-calibre Software Engineer to join the early engineering team and play a meaningful role in shaping both the product and the culture.
Why This Role
- Post-PMF rocketship: Real customers, real revenue, exceptional growth.
- Elite founding team: Backgrounds include ex-Apple AI Research, multiple ex-YC founders, and several former startup founders.
- Serious technical problems: Work closely with a staff research scientist and a tight-knit team of engineers on applied AI and scalable backend systems.
- Massive market leverage: Insurance underpins global commerce. Improvements here compound fast.
- Founder-level ownership: Ideal if you want real responsibility, autonomy, and long-term upside.
What You’ll Do
- Build and scale core backend systems with a focus on performance and reliability.
- Own large parts of the backend stack, primarily in Python.
- Work directly with the founders on technical direction and execution.
- Operate with high autonomy and accountability in a fast-moving environment.
- Be in the office in San Francisco, five days a week.
What They’re Looking For
- 5+ years of experience building real-world products.
- Strong backend engineering experience, Python strongly preferred.
- Clear communicator, written and verbal.
- Bonus points for B2B SaaS or zero-to-one startup experience.
- Most important: drive, grit, and ownership. If you have those, the rest is secondary.
The Bar
This is not a role for someone looking for comfort or cruise control. The pace is fast, expectations are high, and the upside is meaningful. If you want to build something genuinely transformative alongside an exceptional team, this is worth exploring.
