What You'll Do:

  • Lead swimming lessons aligned with YMCA guidelines, using prepared and thoughtful lesson plans.
  • Builds genuine connections with students and parents to foster a supportive learning environment.
  • Promote family involvement and identify potential volunteers.
  • Provide information about aquatics programs and connect participants with other YMCA opportunities.
  • Keep accurate records (attendance, progress reports, etc.)
  • Attend required staff meetings and trainings.
  • Uphold YMCA policies and ensure all safety procedures are followed, including completing incident and accident reports when necessary.

Schedule & Pay:

  • During school year: Monday, Wednesday & Saturday
  • During the summer: Monday-Thursday (2-week session)
  • Pay: Starting at $14.30/hour (up to $17/hour depending on experience)
  • Bonus: Instructors also have the opportunity to begin teaching private lessons!


Requirements:

  • Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification and Emergency Oxygen.
  • Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
  • YMCA Swim Instructor certification, or equivalent.
  • At least 16 years of age.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
  • Must be able to lift equipment, and to lift a small to average size child.
  • Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time.
  • Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
  • Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
