We are seeking an experienced Data Analyst who will turn data into insights that improve outcomes. The analyst partners with Goodwill stakeholders across mission programs, retail teams, and administrative teams to define needs in business terms and translate those needs into clear technical requirements. This role builds and maintains KPIs and dashboards, conducts analysis and research (including surveys when needed), supports data quality and reporting routines, and helps stakeholders understand what the numbers mean and what actions to take.
If you are looking to join our dedicated team as a Data Analyst, we want to hear from you!
The Awesome Things You’ll Do:
Data collection, preparation, and SQL
- Collect, clean, and prepare data from multiple sources (e.g., program systems, retail systems, finance/HR systems, and spreadsheets).
- Write efficient SQL queries to join, aggregate, and validate data (including derived queries and CTEs).
- Manage and extract data from sources ranging in complexity from Excel templates to structured SQL environments.
KPIs, reporting, and performance measurement
- Design, maintain, and document KPIs for mission and temporary programs (e.g., job placements, enrollments/census, job orders, levels of service delivery).
- Design and maintain KPIs for retail operations (e.g., sales, donation flow, production, inventory, pricing, labor, and store performance) to support day-to-day decisions and planning.
- Design and maintain KPIs for administrative sectors such as HR, Finance, IT, and Risk Management to track performance, efficiency, and compliance.
- Establish repeatable processes for routine KPI reporting (daily/weekly/monthly) and support performance meetings by explaining trends and drivers.
- Prepare and support recurring internal and external reporting on fixed intervals (e.g., monthly and annual reporting) as needed.
Business intelligence, dashboards, and visualization
- Build and maintain user-friendly Power BI dashboards focused on clear, presentation-ready visuals.
- Use Power Query and DAX for data modeling, transformations, and calculations.
- Create self-service reporting experiences and publish content to the Power BI service with appropriate access controls.
Analysis, research, and evaluation
- Partner with leadership to identify areas for growth and improved outcomes across mission, retail, and administrative functions by analyzing data across the organization.
- Unearth patterns and outliers that warrant deeper investigation; define hypotheses and run appropriate statistical tests when needed.
- Conduct small- to mid-scale research and evaluation projects using administrative datasets from mission, retail, and finance domains.
- Support the development of survey instruments and implementation of survey methods intended to improve services; coordinate survey collection and processing when applicable.
- Perform market and operational research to inform program, business, and financing decisions as needed.
Data quality, documentation, and standards
- Monitor data quality, reconcile discrepancies, and raise issues with owners; propose fixes and preventative checks.
- Support adherence to data quality protocols and perform quality assurance testing (including routine data readiness checks).
- Document datasets, metric definitions, and dashboard usage; contribute to shared data standards and best practices.
- Validate key data daily to ensure data readiness for staff; flag discrepancies and communicate issues to the engineering/data team.
Systems support, automation, and data sharing
- Identify areas to automate recurring reporting and business processes; help design lightweight solutions that reduce manual work.
- Help teams leverage data systems (e.g., Salesforce or other CRMs) and provide ongoing support of related processes.
- Work with external partners and vendors to determine secure and reliable ways to share data (e.g., SFTP transfers and APIs).
- Contribute to the vision and incremental build-out of larger data initiatives (e.g., data warehouse or data lake).
- Design simple data capture tools or user interfaces when needed (e.g., forms, templates, or low-code apps).
Stakeholder partnership and project delivery
- Translate business questions from program, retail, and administrative leaders into data requirements and clear technical specifications for the data team.
- Partner with retail leaders (e.g., store, district, and regional teams) to define performance questions, clarify KPI definitions, and deliver dashboards that support daily operations and continuous improvement.
- Communicate findings in simple language for non-technical audiences; highlight risks, caveats, and recommended actions.
- Triage and deliver ad hoc analysis and visualization requests while managing expectations and priorities across multiple active projects.
- Create clear documentation and provide training/support so business teams can correctly use dashboards, metrics, and tools.
- Support project planning by clarifying scope, tasks, owners, timelines, and success criteria; take ownership to deliver high-quality work on time.
