Contemporaries is partnering with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to identify a Project Lead to support a highly visible office responsible for managing sensitive communications, document reviews, and interagency coordination. This role works closely with senior leadership, including an attorney supervisor, and supports interactions with policymakers, government officials, and other key stakeholders.
The ideal candidate brings strong judgment, exceptional organizational skills, and experience operating in legal, policy, or politically sensitive environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage high-volume internal and external communications with multiple federal agencies
- Coordinate document routing for legal, political, and executive review
- Track approvals, signatures, data calls, and deadlines to ensure timely completion
- Establish and maintain organized workflows for document review and follow-up processes
- Assign and monitor action items for supporting officials and staff
- Support FOIA requests and legal or policy-related inquiries requiring action
- Review documents for accuracy and completeness; follow up with appropriate stakeholders
- Develop and maintain tracking tools, spreadsheets, and task management systems
- Identify inefficiencies in office processes and recommend improvements
- Provide guidance and oversight to a Project Assistant supporting daily operations
- Maintain professionalism and discretion when corresponding with senior officials and leadership
Required Qualifications
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities
- Experience in legal, policy, political, or highly regulated environments preferred
- Ability to make sound judgment calls based on quickly learned information
- Advanced spreadsheet skills and strong organizational capabilities
- Tech-savvy; experience with Salesforce or other CRM systems is a plus
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to receive feedback and adapt in a fast-paced environment
- Prior experience in project management or project coordination roles
- Experience working in legal, policy, political, or highly regulated environments
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field
- Project management certifications such as PMP, CAPM, or similar credentials
- Familiarity with structured project methodologies and workflow management tools
