Overnight Hospice Caregiver Awake Shift
Job Description
Job Description
Job Type
Full-time / Part-time available · W-2 (not 1099) · Immediate start · 10-hour awake overnight shifts
Homewatch CareGivers of Portland is hiring compassionate, experienced overnight caregivers for a hospice client in downtown Portland who needs dedicated, awake overnight support.
This is awake overnight care — active support through the night, not a sleep shift. It's meaningful, hands-on work with a client who deserves consistency and real presence during a difficult chapter. We're building a small, dedicated night team for this case, and we're looking for caregivers who want to be part of that team from day one.
About the client & the work:
-
Client is legally blind and currently needs help with toileting, standby assistance with sit-to-stand transitions, and support with walking
-
Full support with activities of daily living (ADLs) and instrumental activities of daily living (iADLs)
-
Care needs will increase over time — this client is expected to transition to bed-bound care, so we're looking for caregivers comfortable growing with a case as needs intensify, not just handling today's level of care
-
Downtown Portland location; street parking available (reimbursed) if you drive, easily accessible by TriMet if you don't
Shift:
-
10-hour to 14 awake overnight shifts — you'll be alert and actively available through the night, not sleeping on shift
-
We're building a small rotating team, so shifts are consistent and predictable once scheduled
What we're looking for:
-
Experience with mobility assistance, transfers, and personal care (toileting, hygiene, ADLs), including overnight
-
Comfort and compassion working with clients who are blind or have low vision
-
Prior hospice, end-of-life, or palliative care experience strongly preferred — overnight hospice care has its own rhythm, and this client's needs will become more intensive over time
-
Reliable, punctual, and committed to consistency — this client needs to be able to count on their overnight team as much as their day team
-
Comfortable and alert working overnight hours on an ongoing basis
-
CNA, HCA, or equivalent caregiving certification is NOT Required — compassionate, capable caregivers are welcome to apply. Certification is a plus, but it won't keep you from being considered if you don't.
-
Ability to safely assist with physical transfers and mobility support (essential function of this role; reasonable accommodations considered where possible)
Why work with us:
-
Premium pay reflecting the demands of awake overnight hospice care
-
Small, dedicated care team — you'll know this client and be known by them, not rotated across dozens of cases
-
Support from our RN for delegation and clinical guidance
-
W-2 employment with a locally owned Portland home care agency
