The Role:

Vision Electric is seeking an experienced Director of Purchasing to lead the procurement and purchasing operations that support our commercial electrical construction projects. This individual will oversee the sourcing, purchasing, and vendor management of electrical materials and equipment while ensuring projects receive the right products, at the right price, and at the right time.

The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of electrical construction materials and supply chains, along with experience in the electrical industry through field installation, electrical distribution, or manufacturer/product sales. This role works closely with project managers, estimators, field leadership, vendors, and suppliers to maintain material availability, negotiate pricing, and support successful project execution.



Responsibilities:

  • Lead all purchasing activities for commercial electrical construction projects.
  • Procure electrical materials, equipment, and specialty products while ensuring cost competitiveness and timely delivery.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with electrical distributors, manufacturers, and supplier partners.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and purchasing agreements to maximize value and maintain strong supplier partnerships.
  • Monitor material availability, lead times, and market conditions to proactively identify and mitigate supply chain risks.
  • Coordinate material deliveries with project managers, superintendents, and field teams to support construction schedules.
  • Review material requests, purchase orders, and vendor quotations for accuracy and completeness.
  • Resolve purchasing, delivery, pricing, and product issues while minimizing impacts to project schedules.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing records, vendor information, pricing databases, and procurement documentation.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings, process improvements, and purchasing standardization.
  • Collaborate with estimating during bid preparation by providing material pricing, availability, and procurement insight.
  • Support inventory planning and material forecasting for current and upcoming projects.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word, to manage purchasing data, reporting, and documentation.




Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain management within the electrical construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial electrical construction materials, equipment, and products used on a daily basis.
  • Experience in one or more of the following:
    • Electrical field installation
    • Electrical product sales
    • Electrical distribution or supply
    • Purchasing for an electrical contractor
  • Strong understanding of electrical vendors, manufacturers, and distribution channels.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience leading or managing purchasing operations for a commercial electrical contractor.
  • Established relationships with electrical manufacturers and distributors.
  • Experience supporting design/build or mission-critical construction projects.
  • Knowledge of ERP, purchasing, or inventory management software.
