Category/Classification: Regular employee (non-exempt)

Reports to: Associate Director of TSD

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Acquisition: Processes library material orders utilizing vendor software
  • Receives materials and reconciles shipments with packing lists, monitoring items for damage or publishing errors. Report problems to the Associate Director of TSD.
  • Performs physical processing of all library materials; including tagging, labeling, stamping, bar coding, applying library protective jackets, and security strips following department procedures.
  • Maintains records of materials ordered for receiving, cataloging and processing.
  • Regularly searches on-line databases for order and cataloging information.
  • Enters periodical issues received in library catalog, updating catalog as appropriate.
  • Assists in adding item records to the bibliographic records.
  • Performs copy cataloging of purchases and gifts for inclusion in the Library’s catalog, utilizing OCLC and following bibliographic format standards.
  • Responsible for receiving and sorting incoming mail to distribute to other departments and/or individuals.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Education, Experience, Training, and Certification Requirements

Must qualify for Librarian Certificate 6 (LC6) or higher- High school diploma or GED with 3 years of library experience or 9 semester hours of required library science courses. License and Library Certification 6 or higher. Maintains certification by completing 50 LEUs within the certification period (5 years).


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Working with staff persons, word processing, typing, filing and basic computer use and detail oriented.

Knowledge of vendor software, processes, products, and updates.

Basic computer skills coupled with a basic understanding and knowledge of computer equipment.

The ability to efficiently, effectively and positively meet the library needs of internal and external customers.

Ability to perform methodical and detailed work tasks with a high level of accuracy and close attention to detail.

Ability to work independently and to prioritize tasks according to the needs of the department.


Physical and Mental Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, lift and/or move a maximum of 15 pounds. Occasionally is required to bend at the knees, bend at the waist, reach (extending hands and arms in any direction), handling (grasping, holding or turning objects), working with fingertips, and hearing sounds/communication.
