Legal Secretary
Job Overview:
A legal Secretary contributes to the firm by producing high quality work, ensuring all documents are grammatically correct and helping to assist with the meeting of deadlines. Legal Secretaries also are able to utilize organizational and time management skills to manage multiple priorities spread across all assigned tasks.
Responsibilities and Duties:
· Transcribing dictation
· Typing, including document preparation, formatting and editing
· Scanning, copying and filing for sizable case files Transcribing dictation
· Assist with prioritizing the workload amongst other support staff
· Receptionist phone coverage as needed
· Research as requested
· Performing general office duties
· Other tasks as requested
Qualifications:
· Exceptional oral and written communication skills, grammar and proofreading skills.
· High attention to detail and strong organizational skills with an ability to meet deadlines
· Knowledge of legal terminology
· Strong ability to work without supervision with a high level of work ethic and initiative
· Understands the importance of working as part of a team to meet strict deadlines in an atmosphere of multiple priorities
· Critical thinking skills and is not afraid to take initiative
- High School Diploma
Preferred Skills/Experience:
· Type speed of at least 60 wpm
· Proficient in Microsoft Word and Outlook
· Legal experience is a plus
· Workers' compensation experience is a plus
Working Environment:
- Normal office environment requiring routine operation of standard office equipment (computers, keyboard, telephone, copiers, fax and scanner).
- No exposure to significant environmental hazards.
Essential Functions:
- Ability to perform sedentary work that involves walking, sitting, and standing for long periods of time.
- Normal visual acuity, hearing, speaking, and the ability to understand and speak the English language.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 20 lbs. occasionally.
