Robotics Operator (VR / Teleoperation) – Contract
Location: New York, NY (Onsite)
Duration: 12-month contract with potential extension or conversion
Employment Type: W2 (pay rate available upon request)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (40 hours/week)
Overview
This hands-on role supports cutting-edge robotics research and development by operating humanoid robots in controlled lab environments and, as technology evolves, in real-world settings. The Robotics Operator will follow structured procedures to collect high-quality data, annotate sessions, and monitor system performance. This work directly contributes to training AI models and improving real-world robotic behavior.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate humanoid robots in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Teleoperate robots using virtual reality (VR) equipment to perform daily household tasks
- Support active robot sessions by:
- Preparing environments
- Conducting feasibility testing
- Interacting with systems to ensure smooth operation
- Annotate collected data with appropriate metadata
- Monitor robot performance and document issues, including logs, timestamps, and supporting visuals
- Provide feedback on system and equipment performance
- Maintain accurate records of workflows and system behaviors
- Collaborate with researchers, engineers, and internal teams
- Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean lab environment
Required Qualifications
- Experience with Linux operating systems
- Experience using VR headsets
- Familiarity with gaming systems, including joystick/gamepad controls
- Technical troubleshooting ability with clear documentation skills
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving mindset
- Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions
Education & Experience:
- Associate’s degree required
- 2+ years of customer service or high-volume operational experience
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Ability to work additional hours or weekends as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Experience with robotics, simulation environments, or teleoperation systems
- Familiarity with task management or ticketing tools
- Ability to quickly learn new software and systems
- Strong organizational, multitasking, and communication skills

- Timely communication of findings, issues, and improvement opportunities
Physical & Work Requirements
- Comfortable working in VR environments for extended periods
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, crouch, and perform repetitive tasks throughout the workday
- Capable of lifting up to 10 lbs and wearing equipment up to 30 lbs
- Strong hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, and spatial awareness
