We're currently seeking a Sr. Software Developer to join our team. This initiative aims to transform legacy systems to enhance the Bureaus ability to manage export controls, enforce regulations, and protect sensitive U.S. technologies from unauthorized export. US citizenship and a T3 Secret clearance is required. This is a 5 day a week onsite role in Washington, DC.

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS

This position will require access to classified information, and a SECRET clearance is required at the time of hire. Applicants selected will be subjected to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within the government facility, U.S. Citizenship is required.

The incumbent will act as a bridge between business owners, technical teams, and federal oversight bodies to ensure that modernization activities meet mission goals, cybersecurity requirements, and schedule/cost constraints.


As a Senior Software Developer, you will work closely with cross-functional teams including business analysts, solutions architects, and cloud engineers to build and support scalable applications that align with national securitymission.


Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain software solutions in alignment with project requirements, federal standards, and mission objectives.
  • Write clean, efficient, secure, and well-documented code using modern programming languages and frameworks.
  • Develop APIs and services for system interoperability and data exchange between BIS systems and external partners.
  • Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, retrospectives, and backlog grooming.
  • Collaborate with architects and DevSecOps teams to implement secure CI/CD pipelines and ensure smooth software delivery.
  • Conduct code reviews, unit testing, integration testing, and performance tuning.
  • Support migration of legacy systems to modern platforms, including data transformation and refactoring.
  • Maintain awareness of and implement security best practices in software development (e.g., OWASP Top 10, secure coding).
  • Troubleshoot and resolve software defects, performance issues, and production incidents.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications, API documentation, and support guides.


Requirements:


  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (Masters preferred).
  • 8+ years of software development experience, with demonstrated
    expertise in building enterprise applications.
  • Proficiency in modern programming languages such as Java, C#, Python, or JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Experience with frameworks such as Spring Boot, .NET Core, Angular, or React.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering best practices including design patterns, version control (e.g., Git), and testing.
  • Experience developing APIs (RESTful and/or GraphQL) and integrating with external systems.
  • Familiarity with relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MongoDB).
  • Experience working within Agile development environments and using tools like JIRA and Confluence.
  • Knowledge of federal security and accessibility standards (e.g., NIST, FISMA, Section 508).


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with legacy system modernization or application refactoring in a federal environment.
  • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience working in cloud-native environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Exposure to export control systems, regulatory compliance platforms, or national security mission areas.
  • Knowledge of identity and access management, secure authentication (e.g., OAuth2, SAML), and encryption techniques.

    Teleworking: The company has a hybrid remote policy for all employees and is dependent upon the type of position.This position may be assigned to support a federal contract, or to work in office. The Companys teleworking eligibility may not apply if the employee is supporting a federal services contract. In this instance, the employee may be subject to federal telework policies and may be required to work onsite in the federal facility when requested.
