Personal Care Assistant
JOB DESCRIPTION:
We are looking for a compassionate personal care assistant to support clients living with physical, emotional, and/or cognitive impairments. Your duties will include performing basic housekeeping duties, assisting with personal hygiene, and providing companionship in Waterbury.
To ensure success as a personal care assistant, you should possess experience in a similar role and knowledge of the best practices in providing personal care. Ultimately, a first-class Personal Care Assistant will be someone who prioritizes the wellbeing of clients and demonstrates a caring approach.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have completed Personal Care training and competency.
- Have a sympathetic attitude toward the care of the sick and elderly.
- Ability to carry out directions, read and write.
- Maturity and ability to deal effectively with the demands of the job.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must have a vehicle.
- Must have a valid/current driver’s license, car registration and car insurance.
- Successful clearance of background checks.
- Basic computer skills.
REQUIREMENTS:
- CPR/First Aid Certifications within 30 days of hire (Required).
- Personal care assistant certificate and/or CNA or equivalent.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist clients with personal hygiene, including shower, tub or bed baths, oral care, hair and skin care.
- Assist clients in the use of toilet facilities, including bed pans, and commode.
- Assist clients in and out of bed, excluding the use of mechanical lifting equipment unless trained and documented as a component.
- Assist clients with walking, including the use of walkers and wheelchairs, when applicable.
- Meal preparation / cooking and feeding, when required.
- Light housekeeping includes dusting, laundry (clients).
- Assist with prescribed exercises when the client and the aid have been instructed by the appropriate health professional.
- Record and report changes in the client’s physical condition, behavior or appearance to the supervisor or the coordinator.
- Document services delivered in accordance with Home Care policies and procedures.
LIFTING REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to perform the following tasks if necessary:
- Ability to participate in physical activity.
- Ability to work for extended periods while standing and being involved in physical activity.
- Ability to do extensive bending, lifting and standing on a regular basis.
- Able to lift at least 50lbs.
Location: Waterbury
Part-time: 26 hours
Shifts: Thursday 8a-4p, Friday 8a-4p, Saturday 10a-8pm
