Title: Maintenance Technician (Campus & Arena Facilities)
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Reports to: Arena Manager and Assistant Director of Facilities
Hours: Varies based on arena scheduling and school needs
Effective Date: August 1, 2025
Pay Range: $26 - $30 per hour

Position Overview
The Maintenance Technician supports the daily operations of both the Anderson Ice Arena and main campus facilities, ensuring that Breck’s buildings and grounds are maintained to the highest standards. This shared position is responsible for a wide range of tasks; from ice maintenance and mechanical systems to snow removal, event setup, and preventative maintenance.
Success in this role depends on flexibility, teamwork, and the ability to seamlessly shift between the arena and broader campus needs. The ideal candidate takes pride in creating a clean, safe, and high-functioning environment for students, staff, and visitors alike.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Facilities Maintenance & Repair

Respond to work orders campus-wide, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and lighting.

Perform preventive maintenance and inspections using Breck’s CMMS system.

Assist with furniture assembly, fixture installation, and small-scale repairs in both academic and athletic spaces.

Support campus-wide event setups and breakdowns.
Mechanical Systems & Equipment Operation

Safely operate and maintain a variety of equipment: ice resurfacer (Zamboni), edgers, mowers, trimmers, snow blowers, etc.

Assist in the maintenance and readiness of building systems across all school facilities, including arena-specific infrastructure.

Sharpen skates and provide support for athletic and arena events as needed.
Grounds & Seasonal Support

Assist with lawn care, tree/shrub maintenance, fertilization, and irrigation support.

Participate in snow and ice removal throughout campus, including arena access areas.

Support seasonal campus transitions (e.g., outdoor prep for fall/spring events, winter weatherization).
Customer Service & Campus Support

Serve as a friendly, solution-oriented point of contact for community members using the school’s facilities.

Collaborate with team members to ensure consistency of service across departments and buildings.

Contribute to a positive, responsive facilities culture aligned with Breck’s mission and values.
Education and/or Experience:
College degree preferred or previous experience with on the job training.
Preferred Qualifications

Valid driver’s license and ability to operate machinery (e.g., Zamboni, mowers).

Experience or comfort working with both mechanical and electrical systems.
Must be able to lift 50–100 lbs, work at heights, and perform physical tasks in all seasons.
Competencies
Demonstrated:

Knowledge of the operation of an ice arena.

Knowledge of the janitorial duties required to maintain an ice arena.

Mechanical & electrical ability, to troubleshoot and perform repairs.

Ability to follow directives and enforce school policy.

Ability to safely operate a Zamboni ice resurfacer and complies with all related rules and regulation requirements.

Ability to work independently, set priorities and complete work on a timely basis.

Ability to effectively communicate, courteously and professionally with students, clients and co-workers.
