Automotive service writer duties and responsibilities
Because automotive service writers are usually the first and last team member that customers talk to, they play a major role in determining customer satisfaction. To deliver the best possible experience for a customer, they usually have the following duties and responsibilities:
- Promptly greeting customers who walk into the shop
- Listening to customers describe auto problems
- Asking follow-up questions to help diagnose issues
- Entering customer information into a database
- Tracking the progress of each job
- Compiling work estimates and communicating them to the customer
- Answering customers’ questions regarding the nature of repairs and their costs
- Billing the customer or accepting payment when the job is complete
