The BAS Systems Integrator is an advanced progression within the Software group and is responsible for the integration, programming, and commissioning of building automation systems across multiple disciplines. This position requires mastery of all skills and responsibilities of the Software Technician levels (I–III) and the ability to work independently as a technical lead or in collaboration with senior staff on large, complex projects.
The Systems Integrator focuses on connecting, configuring, and optimizing devices, protocols, and third-party systems (HVAC, lighting, security, metering, etc.) to deliver seamless, high-quality solutions. This role is also expected to set the standard for quality and consistency, ensuring projects are delivered within schedule and budget, while mentoring and training junior technicians to support team growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as project lead for integration efforts, ensuring programming, commissioning, graphics, and owner training are successfully completed.
- Interpret and implement sequences of operation into functional programming logic across multiple systems.
- Integrate third-party devices and systems (HVAC, lighting, security, metering, etc.) into BAS platforms.
- Configure, troubleshoot, and optimize BAS communication protocols, including BACnet, LonWorks, Modbus, and proprietary protocols.
- Tune system performance including PID loops, timers, device discovery, and setpoint optimization.
- Collaborate with engineering, project supervisors, installers, and commissioning agents to ensure design intent and performance requirements are met.
- Maintain and organize all integration project documentation to company standards.
- Provide technical leadership, including delegating tasks to junior staff, reviewing their work, and mentoring them in integration skills.
- Support service and warranty responsibilities for assigned projects.
- Drive adoption of quality standards and best practices across all integration work.
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 5+ years of experience in the Building Automation industry, with a focus on system integration.
- Proven experience working with BAS protocols (BACnet, LonWorks, Modbus, etc.).
- Strong understanding of Ethernet networking, IP addressing, and system connectivity.
- Proficiency in developing and troubleshooting BAS software and control logic.
- Ability to read, interpret, and implement design and construction documents.
- Ability to work in both office and field environments, including construction sites and elevated platforms (ladders, lifts, scaffolding).
- Ability to use hand and power tools safely.
- Must be 21 years of age with a valid driver’s license and limited violations.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or related technical field.
- Niagara AX/N4 certification or equivalent BAS platform experience.
- Experience with systems integration beyond HVAC (lighting, security, access control, energy management, etc.).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong interpersonal abilities.
- Proven organizational, planning, and time management skills.
- Customer-facing experience with the ability to manage expectations professionally.
- Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.).
