StorSoft Technology Corp is seeking a Senior IT Systems Engineer to serve as the primary systems administration and infrastructure engineering resource for a federal agency in Washington, DC. The agency operates a hybrid IT infrastructure: on-premises Cisco networking with fewer than 50 servers built on VMware Hypervisor running Windows Server and Linux, integrated with Microsoft Azure via Azure Arc, with Active Directory federated to Azure Entra ID and a full M365 tenant supporting approximately 150 remote and onsite users.

The IT Systems Engineer owns day-to-day systems administration across the full stack, implements and validates DISA STIG baselines, manages the Entra ID conditional access and MFA environment, develops disaster recovery strategies, and provides documented architectural recommendations to the System Owner. This role requires a generalist with specific depth in Microsoft hybrid environments and the discipline to maintain configuration hygiene, thorough documentation, and FISMA compliance without close supervision.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform day-to-day systems administration activities in both on-premises (VMware/Windows Server/Linux) and M365 cloud environments according to best practices

• Manage Microsoft Entra ID environment: conditional access policies, MFA configuration and enforcement, privileged identity management, audit log review

• Evaluate current NIGC IT systems architecture and configuration; produce documented recommendations with prioritized remediation plans for the System Owner

• Identify gaps in FISMA implementation requirements and develop remediation plans with defined timelines and accountability

• Develop and implement DISA STIG configuration baselines for all servers; configure proactive monitoring and alerting for all critical IT resources

• Evaluate and execute security compliance activities: EDR policy configuration, SCUBA compliance baseline implementation, and alignment with CISA cybersecurity directives

• Install, configure, test, and maintain servers, storage, and related networking equipment; install firmware and security updates on servers, printers, and networking equipment

• Develop disaster recovery strategies for critical systems and data as directed by the System Owner; validate backup integrity and recovery procedures

• Implement and maintain patch management strategy; document compliance metrics and exception tracking

• Participate in special project team meetings to gather systems requirements and support integration of new projects with existing IT operations

• Develop and maintain accurate systems operations documentation and SOPs for all recurring tasks

• Linux: RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu server administration, bash scripting, service management

• Cisco: Network integration context — LAN, VPN, wireless management

• DISA STIGs: Baseline implementation across Windows Server and Linux server environments

• Scripting: PowerShell, bash for automation and reporting

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience: Minimum 10 years of continuous experience in federal IT systems engineering and administration — senior level per government requirements (6+ years minimum)

• Certifications: Microsoft Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104) — Required; Azure Solutions Architect (AZ-305), MCSE, or VMware VCP additionally valued

• Azure Arc/Hybrid: Azure Arc hybrid management: connecting and managing on-premises servers from Azure, applying Azure Policy to on-prem resources, Azure Monitor integration

• Entra ID: Microsoft Entra ID: hands-on conditional access policy design and implementation, MFA enforcement, PIM configuration, sign-in log analysis

• VMware: VMware vSphere/ESXi: VM provisioning and lifecycle management, datastore administration, snapshot management, HA/DRS configuration

• Windows Server: Windows Server: Active Directory administration (Sites/Services, GPO, trusts), DNS/DHCP, File Services, Server Core administration

• Linux: Linux server administration: package management, service configuration, systemd, log management, security hardening on RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu

• DISA STIGs: DISA STIG implementation: hands-on experience applying STIG checklists and SCAP content to Windows Server and Linux systems in a federal environment

• FISMA: FISMA compliance: understanding of FISMA requirements, system inventory, control implementation documentation, and POA&M management

• PowerShell: PowerShell: intermediate to advanced scripting for automation, reporting, and systems management tasks

• Eligibility: Must be a U.S. Citizen; must be able to pass and maintain a Public Trust background investigation; must be willing to work onsite in Washington, DC
