Job Title: Referral Coordinator
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Location: Hialeah, Florida
Position Summary:
A healthcare organization is seeking a detail-oriented, organized, and bilingual Referral Coordinator to support patient care by managing and processing medical referrals. This role plays a critical part in ensuring timely coordination between patients, providers, and external specialists, while maintaining accuracy, professionalism, and compliance with healthcare regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process and coordinate patient referrals in accordance with provider orders and insurance requirements
- Verify insurance eligibility, authorizations, and referral documentation
- Communicate with patients, providers, and external facilities regarding referral status and scheduling
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date referral records in electronic medical systems
- Follow up on pending referrals to ensure timely completion of services
- Serve as a point of contact for patients with questions related to referrals and authorizations
- Collaborate with clinical and administrative staff to support continuity of care
- Demonstrate professionalism, courtesy, and sound judgment in all interactions
- Maintain a calm, respectful, and service-oriented approach, particularly when assisting elderly patients or addressing sensitive situations
- Comply with HIPAA regulations and safeguard patient confidentiality at all times
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and applicable healthcare regulations
- Job responsibilities may be modified, expanded, reduced, or reassigned at any time based on operational needs and do not limit the duties of this position to those listed above
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional healthcare or administrative education preferred
- Previous experience in referral coordination, medical administration, or healthcare office operations preferred
- Familiarity with insurance verification and authorization processes
- Experience working with elderly patients or in a healthcare setting is ideal
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Reliable, punctual, and dependable
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multitask and manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Bilingual in English and Spanish (required)
- Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) and basic computer applications
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
- Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and electronically
- Ability to perform repetitive administrative tasks
