Urgent Care Certified Veterinary Technician Job Description
Position Summary:
A Certified Veterinary Technician assists veterinarians in the care and treatment of animals. This includes clinical, laboratory, and administrative duties in animal hospitals, clinics, and other veterinary facilities. The role requires compassion for animals, technical skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Triage incoming patients, assess condition severity, and prioritize care
- Assist veterinarians with urgent procedures such as wound treatment, stabilization, and fluid therapy
- Monitor and report changes in patient condition during and after treatment
- Administer medications, vaccines, and emergency treatments as directed
- Collect and process diagnostic samples (blood, urine, feces) for rapid testing
- Take and interpret radiographs and support other imaging needs
- Communicate clearly and compassionately with pet owners during stressful situations
- Prepare exam rooms, treatment areas, and surgical suites for emergency procedures
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records in a timely manner
- Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of medical areas and equipment
- Support intake and discharge processes, including client education on home care and follow-up
- Monitor animal vital signs and administer medications or anesthesia as directed
- Perform laboratory tests such as blood counts, urinalysis, and parasite screenings
- Take X-rays and be able to send out consultation reports
- Maintain accurate medical records and charts
- Educate pet owners on proper animal care, treatments, and follow-up procedures
- Clean and sterilize surgical instruments and treatment areas
- Handle and restrain animals safely and compassionately
Qualifications:
- 2-3+ years of experience working in a veterinary setting
- Excellent communication skills
- Active license from a credentialed school of veterinary technology
- Flexibility in hours including but not limited to evenings, weekends and holidays is a MUST. Our current hours are listed below but are subject to change in the near future:
Sunday 11-9 pm
Monday 10-8 pm
Tuesday 12-8 pm
Wednesday 12-8 pm
Thursday 10-8 pm
Friday 10-10 pm
Saturday 10-10 pm
Rate is dependent on experience. Please only apply to this ad if you are currently holding a PA licence in Veterinary Technology.
