Aligned Orthopedic Partners is recruiting for an experienced Certified Athletic Trainer. The Athletic Trainer is responsible for providing medical care, in office clinics and in surgery, under the direction and supervision of the Physicians. The incumbent will be required to report to offices in Tysons, VA and Bethesda, MD.

What you will do:

  • Maintain organized, legible, and up-to-date patient records and documentation.
  • Keep work and exam areas clean, organized, and ready for use by the next team or patient.
  • Attend and actively participate in required staff meetings and ongoing training.
  • Stay informed of and comply with all updated policies, procedures, quality improvement initiatives, and applicable regulations (HIPAA, OSHA, etc.).
  • Prioritize and complete work assignments efficiently; seek guidance from supervisors as needed.
  • Support a cooperative, professional, and task-focused work environment by interacting respectfully with fellow staff, patients, physicians, and vendors.
  • Adhere to scheduled work hours, including prompt arrival, appropriate management of breaks, and timely completion of duties. Obtain supervisor approval for any overtime or paid time off.
  • Cross-train in other roles to support team coverage during staff absences or breaks.
  • Maintain professional appearance and demeanor in accordance with practice standards.
  • Respond to phone calls, emails, voicemails, and correspondence in a timely and professional manner.
  • Assist with onboarding and orientation for new employees and students.

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Prepare for clinic sessions by reviewing relevant documents, notes, and patient records.
  • Greet and prepare patients for evaluation, including taking injury histories and reviewing prior clinical notes.
  • Perform clinical tasks such as casting, splinting, suture/staple removal, drawing up injections, post-op dressing changes, and operating ultrasound equipment as needed.
  • Accurately convey and implement physician’s verbal and written orders.
  • Facilitate lab specimen collection and ensure accurate placement of electronic orders.
  • Communicate x-ray and imaging requests per physician guidelines.
  • Ensure patients understand their treatment plans, follow-up instructions, and have all questions answered before leaving the clinic.
  • Support discharge planning and coordinate appropriate follow-up care.

Provider Support Responsibilities:

  • Conduct patient evaluations including history, assessments, treatment recommendations, and documentation.
  • Collaborate with physicians to develop and adjust individualized treatment plans.
  • Explain findings and care plans clearly to patients and their families.
  • Modify care plans in response to changes in patient condition.
  • Assist patients in obtaining necessary adaptive equipment or assistive devices.
  • Participate in surgical procedures in hospital and ambulatory surgical settings, if indicated.
  • Maintain clinical software and equipment competency.
  • Support development and refinement of clinical protocols and administrative systems to improve operational efficiency.

Additional Duties:

  • Understand and apply insurance policies as they relate to patient care.
  • Maintain and monitor physician dictations.
  • Participate in continuing education for professional growth and skill advancement.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

  • Degree in Athletic Training with Certification as OTC, OT-SC, or CST.
  • Licensed to work as an ATC in Maryland and Virginia.
  • Phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • Demonstrates effective organizational skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to multi-task and capable of remaining calm in stressful situations.
  • Able to use a personal computer, related software, and an Electronic Health Record system.
  • Demonstrates keyboard proficiency. Knowledge of medical terminology and medical coding required.
  • Good manual dexterity and working knowledge of Orthopedic surgical procedures and tasks.
  • The ability to work in a stressful environment.
  • Physical stamina to work long shifts and move or lift patients and heavy equipment.
  • The ability to remain calm and focused in the operating room.

Working Conditions

Office and clinical floor medical practice setting and hospital operating room. Frequent use of computer. Sits, stands, bends, lifts up to 50 pounds without assistance and moves frequently during working hours. Subject to frequent interruptions. May be exposed to patient illnesses and has high risk of exposure to patient body fluids.
