STATUS: PART-TIME (SEASONAL)

POSITION SUMMARY:
Counselors will lead and supervise groups of children, ages 3-14 years old, in a variety of sports and recreational activities, while ensuring a fun and safe atmosphere that creates memorable experiences for all campers at Iron Peak. Counselors are responsible for carrying out lesson plans designed by the Camp Director and within a variety of activities.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
- Ensure a group of assigned campers is supervised and safe
- Utilize appropriate behavior management techniques
- Prepare and lead a variety of activities that are age-appropriate
- Model good behavior for campers as it relates to sportsmanship, manners, and respectfulness
- Identify teachable moments and capitalize on them
- Perform all responsibilities in a manner that guarantees the safety of campers
- Facilitate and encourage participation, fun, and inclusivity in camp activities
- Interact with parents in a professional and polite manner
- Organize and maintain updated camper forms and information for each week
- Assist with before/after camp drop-off, check-in, and sign-out
- Assist other counselors/coaches with camp duties
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
- 1 year of experience supervising and working with children, preferably as a camp counselor, coach, before/after school monitor, caregiver, daycare provider, or teacher
- CPR, First Aid, AED certification required and current (course offered at Iron Peak, pre-camp)
- Flexible work schedule and regular attendance is necessary
- Experience with a variety of recreational, adventure, and/or athletic activities; knowledge of basic sport skills and instruction
- Proven ability to maintain a safe environment for others in adherence with provided protocol and standards
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, engage, and lead activities for large groups of children
- Ability to maintain focus and safety in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
- Must be detail-orientated and have outstanding organizational, multi-task, and communication skills
- Ability to remain calm and focused in challenging and stressful situations
- Must be respectful and friendly to our campers, families, guests, and fellow staff
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must be able to lift 40 pounds waist high
- Will be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time whether indoors or outdoors, and squat, stoop or bend
- Must be able to identify problems and/or hazards and resolve or report to management
- Must comply with safety and health code standards
- Facility has intermittent noise
