Job Description
Job Description
Job Title: Programmer Analyst – Data Engineering and Automation (Energy Sector Focus) (11+ Months Contract in Florida, No Relocation)
Job Summary:
Our client, a leading organization in the energy sector, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Programmer Analyst to join their dynamic team. This role sits at the intersection of data engineering and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) from various systems, while also leveraging automation tools to streamline business processes. A background in supporting large-scale energy or industrial projects is highly valued, as you will be instrumental in transforming project data into actionable insights that support infrastructure investments ranging from $200 million to $1.5 billion.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process Automation: Design and build automated solutions using the Power Platform (PowerApps, Power Automate) to eliminate manual, repetitive tasks for internal project management, engineering, and construction teams.
- Data Integration & Engineering: Extract and validate data from various energy project systems (e.g., project management software, SAP) using APIs, R scripts, Alteryx, SSIS, or Python.
- Data Modeling & Warehousing: Transform extracted data and load it efficiently into relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL) and multi-dimensional cubes (e.g., SSAS, SAP BW), ensuring data integrity and optimization.
- Project Data Analysis: Perform data analysis to support project execution, contract administration, cost management, and budget oversight. Help tether disparate datasets (e.g., procurement, scheduling, field turnover) into a comprehensive view for analysis.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with IT and business units—including Development, Engineering, Procurement, and Construction teams—to ensure seamless data flow that supports project scope, timeline, and risk management.
- Quality & Compliance: Conduct regular data quality assessments to maintain accuracy and consistency. Support data governance and compliance standards across the project lifecycle.
- Visualization & Reporting: Expose analytical results and project health metrics using visualization tools like Power BI or Tableau to support decision-making and strategic initiatives.
- Documentation & Training: Develop and maintain documentation for ETL processes and automation methodologies. Provide training to end-users and stakeholders on new tools and data access.
- Innovation: Stay updated with advancements in AI and data analytics to continuously enhance capabilities within the energy sector.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of combined experience in data engineering, automation development, and/or project management support within industrial or energy sector environments.
- Technical Expertise:
- Proven experience building automation using Power Platform tools (PowerApps, Power Automate).
- Strong proficiency in data ingestion and transformation tools/languages (Python, R, Alteryx, SSIS).
- Experience with multi-dimensional (OLAP) and relational (OLTP) databases.
- Exposure to building visualizations using Power BI or Tableau.
- Domain Knowledge: Understanding of project management principles, contract administration, and safety management practices as they relate to large-scale infrastructure or energy projects.
- Core Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail. Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
- Communication: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical teams, business units, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
Preferred Skills:
- Technical: Experience with PostgreSQL, SSAS, SAP BW, GEP Smart, or Redshift. Familiarity with QA/testing of user interfaces.
- Industry: Direct experience in the energy sector or utility industry, particularly supporting commissioning, start-up activities, or field operations.
- Methodologies: Familiarity with Agile methodologies.
