Salary Range: $100,000 – $115,000 per year, commensurate with experience, skill set, and demonstrated competency in operational leadership roles.
Bonus Eligible: Up to 60% annually, based on individual and company performance
General Function:
Reporting directly to the District Vice President, the General Manager will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of branch operations, including staff management, P&L accountability, security, customer relationships, and driving future growth.
This role will have operational oversight of three locations:

Fayetteville (primary location) – approx. 12 routes

Wilmington – approx. 8 routes

Myrtle Beach – approx. 4 routes
The P&L for Wilmington and Myrtle Beach rolls up under the Fayetteville branch, and the General Manager will be expected to ensure financial performance, operational efficiency, and service excellence across all three locations.
The General Manager is responsible for reviewing and managing staff schedules and routing—including weekend coverage—to ensure proper alignment with operational needs. This includes maintaining accurate and efficient route manifests and establishing and monitoring route productivity standards.
In addition, the GM will be responsible for the development, implementation, and administration of operational policies and procedures, while providing overall supervision of daily activities in alignment with the direction of the District Vice President.
Specific Responsibilities:
The General Manager will be responsible for:
- Responsible for P&L management, including controlling branch labor costs, optimizing revenue generation, and maintaining targeted profit margins to ensure overall financial health and performance of the branch.
- Provides oversight and coordination of all activities related to the recruiting, interviewing, testing, selection, and training of operations personnel. Responsible for the training, development, and performance evaluation of Operations Supervisors, ensuring team readiness and alignment with company standards and goals.
- Provides oversight and coordination of route, dispatch, and terminal operations through direct leadership of respective managers and supervisors, ensuring efficient, compliant, and high-performing day-to-day operations.
- Provides oversight and coordination of maintenance activities for all vehicles, forklifts, and operational equipment. Ensures that preventive maintenance and repairs are completed safely, effectively, and in a timely manner to minimize downtime and maintain operational readiness.
- Responsible for controlling operational costs by identifying efficiencies, managing resources effectively, and ensuring adherence to budgetary guidelines without compromising service quality or safety.
- Ensures the safety of employees, vehicles, and facilities by providing comprehensive training, continuous monitoring, and strict enforcement of all relevant policies and procedures.
- Ensures the security of cargo and terminal operations through ongoing training, vigilant monitoring, and consistent enforcement of established policies and procedures.
- Leads the investigation of accidents and ensures timely and accurate completion and submission of all required documentation in compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Develops and maintains strong customer service skills across all operations staff, ensuring consistent, professional interactions. Handles and responds promptly to customer inquiries and complaints to maintain high levels of satisfaction and service quality.
- Coordinates effectively with sales teams, other facilities and departments, corporate staff, carriers, and vendors to ensure seamless operations and collaborative problem-solving.
- Here’s a clear and professional way to present these responsibilities: Controls overtime hours to manage labor costs while meeting operational demands. Monitors and manages employee vacation schedules to ensure adequate staffing coverage.Maintains and improves the effectiveness and efficiency of route, terminal, and overall operations.
- Develops and executes short- and long-range operational plans to achieve branch goals and drive sustained growth.
Key Relationships:
- The General Manager will consult regularly with and take guidance from the District Vice President, maintaining open communication and alignment on daily operations and strategic priorities.
- The General Manager is responsible for the training, counseling, discipline, conduct management, and performance evaluation of all supervisors and hourly employees under their direction on a daily basis.
- The General Manager will maintain regular communication with customers to ensure satisfaction, address concerns, and build strong relationships.
- The General Manager will maintain ongoing communication with sales and administration teams to provide updates on service delivery, customer matters, and payroll issues.
Qualifications:
- Operation Management experience a Must.
- Transportation experience a Plus
- College Education or Military experience is a Plus
