Field Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a Field Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience as a field liaison between Engineering and Operations within the construction or mining industry, overseeing survey delineations, data collection, technical reporting, calculations, equipment assistance, measurements, and quality control. The Field Engineer will report directly to the Engineering Manager.
Key Responsibilities
Act as the field liaison between Engineering and Operations, facilitating communication and coordination.
Perform survey delineations for assigned projects, ensuring accurate layout and staking.
Collect as-built data, including field measurements and documentation for project records.
Prepare technical reports on project progress, surveys, and quality assurance activities.
Conduct volumetric calculations for stockpiles and earthworks cuts to support planning and verification.
Assist equipment operators with GPS grade control calibration and feature layouts.
Conduct field measurements and implement quality control and quality assurance processes, including adherence to construction drawings.
Coordinate with teams to resolve technical issues and implement changes in the field.
Maintain accurate documentation, including logs and reports, to support engineering and operations.
Monitor field performance, identify technical risks, and implement mitigation strategies to ensure quality and compliance.
Ensure compliance with all applicable engineering standards, codes, and regulatory requirements.
Scope of Work
The Field Engineer will oversee a variety of tasks critical to the Project, including:
Survey and Layout: Perform survey delineations and assist with GPS calibrations for accurate project execution.
Data Collection: Gather as-built data and conduct field measurements for documentation and verification.
Calculations and Reporting: Compute volumetrics for stockpiles and cuts and prepare technical reports.
Quality Assurance: Implement QC/QA processes to ensure work meets construction drawings and standards.
Equipment Assistance: Support operators with grade control and feature layouts.
Risk and Compliance: Identify field risks, ensure adherence to standards, and coordinate inspections.
Documentation: Maintain accurate records, reports, and logs throughout the project lifecycle.
Closeout: Assist in project wrap-up, including final data collection and reviews.
Required Skills and Qualifications
A minimum of 3 years of experience in field engineering within the construction or mining industry, with at least 1 year in a similar liaison role.
Proven track record of managing field technical tasks on projects, including surveys and data collection.
Strong knowledge of engineering practices, safety standards, regulatory compliance, and field operations in the civil construction sector.
Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, Revu - Bluebeam).
Ability to make decisions under pressure and resolve technical issues effectively.
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Surveying, or a related field; relevant certifications (e.g., OSHA 10, MSHA) preferred.
