Job DescriptionNational Security (International Trade) Associate Attorney
Location: Washington, DC

Direct Counsel is representing a leading global law firm seeking a mid-to-senior level Associate Attorney to join its National Security practice group in Washington, DC. This is an exceptional opportunity to work on sophisticated international trade and national security matters for major multinational clients in a dynamic and fast-paced practice.

The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of relevant experience focused on international trade matters, along with an interest in broader national security-related work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise clients on international trade matters, including customs, trade policy, trade law, and trade remedies
  • Counsel clients on regulatory and compliance issues impacting cross-border business operations
  • Support matters involving export controls, economic sanctions, and CFIUS reviews as needed
  • Conduct legal research and draft memoranda, regulatory analyses, and client communications
  • Collaborate with attorneys across the firm on complex cross-border and government-facing matters
  • Manage sophisticated matters while maintaining strong client relationships

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant law firm or government experience in international trade matters
  • Significant experience with customs, trade policy, trade law, and trade remedies
  • Exposure to export controls, sanctions, and/or CFIUS matters is strongly preferred
  • Excellent writing, analytical, and communication skills
  • Strong academic credentials
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative and fast-paced environment
  • Admission to the Washington, DC Bar or eligibility to waive in

Compensation

  • Expected salary range: $365,000 – $420,000
  • Eligibility for discretionary bonus and comprehensive benefits package
