Job Description

Job DescriptionBoarhog is seeking an experienced Navigation Technician ready to join the team of engineers, technologists, and military veterans supporting the U.S. Navy's Surface Combat Systems Center (SCSC) on Wallops Island, Virginia. The selected candidate will configure, initialize and maintain the various Navigation systems including WSN-7, NAVSSI, GPNTS, FODMS and GEDMS. Our Navigation Tech will also work closely work with systems engineers to restore advanced combat system casualties, support fleet readiness events, and large multi-system multi-platform Operational test events
The SCSC provides live and simulated integrated warfare capabilities in a net-centric, maritime environment to develop, test, evaluate and conduct fleet operations and training for the warfighter. The AEGIS Complex provides support to AEGIS and AEGIS Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) Lifetime Support Engineering, Training, In-Service Engineering, Interoperability Testing, Engineering Initiatives, and Technical Research & Development required to maintain and upgrade the AEGIS and AEGIS BMD equipped fleet in war ready condition and fully capable of executing its mission.Required Education & Experience

  • High School/GED
  • No less than three (3) years of demonstrated experience assessing, troubleshooting, and performing corrective maintenance and preventive maintenance on navigation systems.
  • PQS 301 qualification is required. If selected candidate is not PQS 301 qualified on or before hire date, he/she must be willing and able to obtain PQS 301 qualification within three (3) months of employment.

Required Knowledge and SkillsThe successful candidate must have knowledge of some of the following systems:

  • WSN7
  • NAVSSI
  • GPNTS
  • FODMS
  • GEDMS

Preferred but not required:

  • Navy Technical “C” school training or civilian/commercial equivalent in any one of the three SPY radar variants currently deployed in the Fleet
  • UNIX-based open architecture experience; ability to understand UNIX-based program commands and local area network (LAN) theory
  • troubleshooting and maintaining functional equipment areas of the AEGIS Combat System.
  • Working closely with US Navy personnel, civilian government personnel and technical representatives from government contractors


Work ScheduleThe successful candidate must be willing and able to perform in a variety of 40 hour work-week configurations, which may be scheduled on a rotational basis, including:

  1. Monday-Friday (5 x 8): 1st Shift
  2. Monday-Friday (5 x 8): 2nd Shift
  3. Variable 4 x 10 shifts that may include weekends (4 days on/3 days off) and may be 1st or 2nd shift
  4. Sliding (5 x 8) work weeks (Sunday-Thursday or Tuesday-Saturday) and may be 1st or 2nd shift


Security Clearance

  • Active DoD Secret security clearance, or able to obtain and maintain a Secret level DoD security clearance.
  • The criteria for obtaining and holding a DoD clearance are driven by US government requirements, to include being a US citizen. If selected candidate is not in possession of an active Secret clearance, then he/she will receive a contingent offer and the start date will be delayed until an interim Secret clearance is granted.
