Position Summary
The Rotating Equipment Specialist is responsible for the technical evaluation, troubleshooting, and repair support of rotating equipment. This role focuses on conducting root cause analysis and producing clear, professional reports for customers. The position serves as a key technical resource for outside salespeople and customers, ensuring high-quality repairs.
Key Responsibilities
- Review incoming jobs and define repair scope based on inspection findings
- Prepare comprehensive technical reports for customers, including findings, failure causes, and repair recommendations
- Serve as a primary technical point of contact for customers regarding equipment condition, repair options, and job status
- Support shop technicians during disassembly, repair, and reassembly processes as needed
- Ensure all repairs meet or exceed OEM specifications and quality standards
- Verify final inspections, testing, and quality control prior to equipment release
- Support estimating and quoting by providing technical input and scope development
- Promote and follow best practices for safety, quality, and continuous improvement
- Assist in training and mentoring technicians on troubleshooting methods and repair standards
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; technical degree or engineering background preferred
- 510+ years of experience with rotating equipment repair, including pumps, motors, and gearboxes
- Proven experience in troubleshooting and root cause failure analysis
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, tolerances, fits, bearings, seals, and alignment
- Experience writing technical reports and communicating findings to customers
Preferred Skills
- Experience with industrial repair best practices
- Familiarity with machining processes and shop equipment (lathe, mill, etc.)
- Strong organizational and job planning skills
- Excellent communication and customer-facing abilities
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in a shop environment with exposure to noise, oils, and heavy equipment
- Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and assisting with hands-on tasks as needed
- Standing, walking, and interacting on the shop floor for extended periods
