Job DescriptionDescription:

Summary/Objective: Supervises and performs services during evening and weekend park operations. This is semi-skilled work dealing with the general public and requires light maintenance work. Work is performed with limited supervision and often while alone. This is not a security enforcement position.


Essential Functions:

· Displays proficient knowledge of all park rules, regulations, and enforcement procedures.

· Coordinates with supervisor and other county staff regarding all scheduled events, including shelter reservations, held at parks.

· Deals courteously and professionally with parks’ visitors through answering questions and providing information while interpreting park rules, amenities, and programs.

· Posts shelter reservation cards and opens reserved shelters as scheduled each day. Shelters are to be inspected and cleaned daily to ensure cleanliness and safety.

· Performs parking duties and crowd control for large scheduled events.

· Performs maintenance of ball fields during tournament play, including, but not limited to, field re-lining, ballfield base and pitching rubber distance adjustments, field watering as necessary, and hand raking.

· Inspects and performs light preventive and corrective maintenance of playground equipment, water fountains, walking trails, picnic shelters, scoreboards, bleachers, etc. as needed to ensure the public’s safety.

· Performs routine maintenance and upkeep of parks (i.e., restrooms, shelter cleaning, supply stocking, litter control, trash pickup, and nature center care).

· Keeps supervisor informed of all maintenance needs, cleaning supplies, public complaints, and safety hazards.

· Panther Creek Park (only): Turns outdoor ball field lighting on as necessary.

· Mattingly Target Shooting Range (as scheduled): Provides additional assistance to facility staff during special events, including, but not limited to, picking up spent shotgun hulls, loading targets, and miscellaneous cleaning.

· Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups or customers or employees of the organization.

· Mathematical Skills: Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

· Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and vibrations. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

The employee is occasionally required to sit, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally life and/or move up to 60 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.


Position type and expected hours of work: Weekday evenings and/or weekends.


Required education and experience: High school diploma or GED; one to three months related experience and/or training; equivalent combination of education and experience.


Additional eligibility qualifications: Valid driver’s license.
