Job DescriptionUnder the supervision of the Director of Programming, the Program Coordinator plans, coordinates, and facilitates in-person, socialization-focused programming for older adults in Northeast Philadelphia, with a particular focus on serving the Jewish community.

This position plays a key role in implementing a strategic plan to expand community-based programming through Social Programs for Positive Aging, Federation Housing sites, and JFCS HUB locations, with particular attention to Holocaust survivors and other socially isolated Jewish seniors.

The Program Coordinator supports community-building efforts grounded in connection, dignity, cultural relevance, and well-being. The ideal candidate brings warmth, strong organizational skills, cultural sensitivity, and flexibility, and collaborates effectively with staff, volunteers, and community partners to deliver high-quality, responsive programming for Jewish older adults. Demonstrated cultural competence within Jewish communal contexts is essential; religious affiliation is not a requirement for this position.


RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Plan, coordinate, and facilitate recurring and seasonal socialization programs for Jewish older adults throughout Northeast Philadelphia
  • Implement Social Programs for Positive Aging at existing and new program sites, including Federation Housing locations
  • Support the development and delivery of programming at the Northern Northeast HUB and expand offerings at the current HUB
  • Facilitate programs focused on social connection, wellness, creativity, Jewish culture, life transitions, and community engagement
  • Create and support low-barrier socialization opportunities for Holocaust survivors and other isolated Jewish seniors
  • Manage program logistics, including space coordination, volunteer support, participant welcome and transitions, refreshments or meals, and activity wrap-up
  • Collaborate with building managers, social workers, and community partners to identify participant needs and engagement opportunities
  • Maintain attendance records, basic participant notes, and program evaluation data
  • Conduct informal check-ins and needs assessments with participants and make referrals to JFCS or community services as appropriate
  • Analyze participation trends and participant feedback to inform program adjustments and improvements
  • Support volunteer engagement, including coordination of Russian- and Hebrew-speaking volunteers
  • Represent JFCS within the Northeast Philadelphia Jewish community and assist with partnership development
  • Participate in regular planning meetings and contribute to program growth and innovation
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Programming

CORE COMPETENCIES

  • Ability to work effectively and compassionately with Jewish older adults from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds
  • Strong group facilitation and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to design and implement engaging, inclusive, and culturally relevant programming
  • Comfort working with Holocaust survivors using trauma-informed approaches
  • Using Trauma Informed Care (TIC) in all aspects of conducting the responsibilities of the role
  • Strong organizational skills, adaptability, and initiative
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to analyze participation data and qualitative feedback to inform program decisions

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree required; master's degree in social work, gerontology, psychology, or a related field preferred
  • Minimum of two years of experience in community programming, social services, or older adult services
  • Experience working with Jewish older adults and/or Holocaust survivors strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed and strengths-based engagement approaches
  • Comfort using computers, tablets, and smartphones
  • Proficiency with Office 365, including Excel and PowerPoint, and basic data tracking tools

PREFERRED / ADVANTAGEOUS QUALIFICATIONS

  • Russian and/or Hebrew language proficiency, used to support participant engagement
  • Experience working with Russian-speaking Jewish communities
  • Familiarity with Federation Housing or senior housing environments
  • Experience coordinating or supporting volunteers
  • Knowledge of Jewish holidays, traditions, and communal structures

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, including periods of standing during programs
  • Ability to lift and transport program materials (up to 30 pounds), with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to reliably travel between community-based program sites in Northeast Philadelphia
  • Occasional evening or weekend hours required for programs or community events
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of required criminal background checks, in accordance with applicable laws
  • Must meet JFCS vaccination policies at hire and on an ongoing basis, subject to applicable medical or religious accommodations as required by law
  • Must follow all agency, local, and CDC health and safety guidelines
  • Position is primarily community-based in Northeast Philadelphia, with work at JFCS HUB locations

Salary: $52,000 - 61, 000 per year
