This role offers an opportunity for an early-career geotechnical engineer to support consistent quality standards across proposal development and project execution. You will assist in planning and delivering small-scale engineering projects, perform technical analyses, and contribute to field investigations under the supervision of experienced engineering professionals and licensed Professional Engineers. The position is ideal for someone seeking to build a strong foundation in geotechnical and civil engineering while gaining hands-on project management and client-facing experience.
Responsibilities
- Support consistent quality standards throughout proposal development and project execution.
- Manage and execute small-scale engineering projects with limited complexity under the guidance of senior staff.
- Assist in developing project scopes, objectives, and detailed work plans.
- Support the preparation of cost estimates, technical specifications, and other project documentation.
- Perform engineering calculations, data analysis, and technical evaluations for review by licensed professionals.
- Conduct, coordinate, or oversee field investigations, testing activities, and data collection efforts.
- Develop project schedules and coordinate assigned phases of project work to help ensure timely delivery.
- Collaborate with senior project managers and licensed engineers to gain technical and project management experience.
- Prepare design recommendations, technical solutions, and project modifications for review and approval.
- Assist in preparing proposals, technical reports, and investigation plans.
- Supervise, when required, technical staff, field personnel, laboratory technicians, and subcontractors.
- Communicate with clients and project teams regarding project scope, schedule, deliverables, and progress.
- Work under the supervision and mentorship of experienced engineering professionals and licensed Professional Engineers (PEs).
Essential Skills
- 03 years of relevant engineering experience in geotechnical or civil engineering.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
- Foundational knowledge of geotechnical engineering and civil engineering principles.
- Ability to perform engineering calculations, data analysis, and technical evaluations.
- Strong technical writing skills for preparing reports, specifications, and project documentation.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for coordinating with project teams and clients.
- Strong project coordination skills, including organizing tasks, schedules, and deliverables.
- Ability to work in both office and field environments.
- Interest in or progress toward professional licensure, such as Engineer-in-Training (EIT).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Master's degree in Engineering or a related field is preferred but not required.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or demonstrable progress toward professional licensure is preferred.
- Experience supporting proposal preparation, including scopes, cost estimates, and technical specifications.
- Exposure to field investigations, testing activities, and data collection in geotechnical or civil projects.
- Experience collaborating with senior project managers and licensed engineers on multidisciplinary projects.
- Experience coordinating or supervising technical staff, field personnel, laboratory technicians, or subcontractors is an advantage.
Work Environment
This role involves a mix of office and field work, providing exposure to both analytical tasks and hands-on project activities. In the office, you will prepare calculations, reports, technical specifications, and project documentation using standard engineering tools and software under the supervision of licensed Professional Engineers. In the field, you will participate in or oversee investigations, testing, and data collection, which may include working outdoors and at active project sites. You will collaborate closely with senior project managers, licensed engineers, technical staff, and subcontractors, and you will interact directly with clients to discuss project scope, schedules, and deliverables. Dress expectations may vary between office and field settings, with typical professional attire in the office and appropriate safety and protective clothing required on job sites.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bartlett, TN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $28.85 - $36.06/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
