SUMMARY:

The Store Manager will support operations by leading activities in both store retail areas and inventory processing. This includes donations receiving, donor relations, cleanliness and safety of the inventory areas, merchandise sorting, testing, pricing, recycling, and storage, customer service, point of sale operations, merchandise stocking, visual staging of merchandise, and cleanliness and organization of the sales floor. The Manager receives direction from the store Store Operations Director to develop priorities for both retail and merchandise processing. The Manager collaborates with all staff & volunteers in the Processing area to maintain an organized stock of clean & tidy merchandise ready to be moved to the retail floor. The Manager leads the team to proactively respond to donors, and assures donors have an easy and pleasant donating experience. The Manager collaborates with staff & volunteers in the Retail area to maintain a full stock of merchandise. Tests toys, small electronics, inflatables, and other items as needed. The Manager will exhibit a positive attitude in all interactions with customers, staff, donors and volunteers. Proactively directs other staff to assist as needed with Processing tasks. The Manager will collaborate with staff and volunteers to create an environment that is clean, cute, creative and uncluttered.

  2. refrain from personal cell phone use, eating, personal shopping, and other personal entertainment activities (socializing, reading, games, etc.
  3. complete shift breaks and meal breaks within allotted time (15 minutes / 30 minutes)
  4. be prepared to begin tasks as soon as clocked in (personal items are stored, personal drinks are filled, etc.; i.e., ready to start work when you clock in)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  1. Organize the Donation Receiving / Processing / Pricing / Testing areas, with the direction of the Store Operations Director
    1. Manage inventory process - receiving, testing, cleaning, storage, sorting, pricing, etc.
    2. Adhere to the approved Overflow pricing guide.
    3. Lead donor relations and assure donors have a positive experience at Overflow
    4. Manage merchandise storage so it is clean, organized, easily accessible and safe
    5. Complete daily checklists and productivity reports
    6. Assist Operations Director to maintain a full inventory level on the sales floor
    7. Support the Operations Director to proactively rotate merchandise, regularly purging items and assuring product is fresh
    8. Complete cleaning tasks; assure the Processing and Testing areas are clean and uncluttered
    9. Provide ideas and support to the Marketing & E-Commerce team to promote Overflow merchandise and increase sales
    10. Collaborate with staff to move merchandise onto the sales floor efficiently and in a manner that maximizes sales opportunity (e.g., moving seasonal items on & off the sales floor)
    11. Create an environment in the store that promotes customer and staff safety
      1. Keep aisles free from clutter
      2. Assure broken items are removed
  2. Lead retail operations including deployment of staff and volunteers for daily tasks
    1. The Store Operations Director and Managers collaborate together to act as leads during all shifts and are responsible for:
      1. Setting the daily schedule and work priorities for the team (including Associates) - assigning staff to tasks (register, receiving, stocking, etc.) and determining schedule for breaks (including meals)
      2. Handling customer concerns and complaints
      3. Handling volunteer concerns and setting volunteer work priorities
      4. Making requests for assistance to Operations Directors or Managing Director when needed
    2. Answer customer questions in a manner consistent with the stores mission and values
    3. Encounter all stakeholders with kindness
  3. Organize all retail spaces, in collaboration with the Store Operations Director and other Managers
    1. Maintain clean, attractively-staged and organized displays
    2. Maintain a proactive merchandise rotation program, regularly purging items and assuring product is fresh
    3. Complete store cleaning tasks; assure the sales floor is clean and uncluttered; assure restrooms and other public areas are clean and welcoming
    4. Provide ideas and support to the Marketing & E-Commerce team to promote Overflow merchandise and increase sales
    5. Collaborate with team to move merchandise onto the sales floor efficiently and in a manner that maximizes sales opportunity (e.g., moving seasonal items on & off the sales floor)
    6. Create an environment in the store that promotes customer and staff safety
      1. Keep aisles free from clutter
      2. Assure broken items are removed from the sales floor
      3. Assure sidewalks immediately around customer and volunteer entries are free from debris and snow / ice; alert OD of any significant repair concerns
  4. Achieve sales goals
    1. Collaborate with Store Operations Director and other staff to meet monthly sales goals
  5. Develop and adjust processes for efficiency
    1. Collaborate with Store Operations Director on process and facility changes that promote efficiency
    2. Maintain accuracy of department training and pricing guides
  6. Serve as an ambassador to OTS volunteers - creating an environment of appreciation for our volunteers while supporting volunteers to achieve the OTS mission
    1. Collaborate with volunteers on assigned work priorities
    2. Communicate with volunteers with kindness, respect and appreciation
    3. Participate in planned volunteer trainings, groups, and appreciation as scheduled
    4. Utilize training and pricing guides for volunteer onboarding
  7. Assures all work performed is done in accordance with OSHA safety standards and those established by Overflow Thrift Store.
  8. Other duties as assigned.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma required
  • One to two years experience in a retail environment preferred
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds and 60 pounds in a team lift occasionally
  • Ability to work:
    • at least two Saturdays each month,
    • at least one evening shift each week on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and
    • a mix of daily schedules (9 AM to 5:30 PM, 10 AM to 6:30 PM, 11 AM to 7:30 PM, 12 PM to 8:30 PM)
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with continuous standing, carrying, bending, squatting, pulling, and pushing.This is a constant expectation of the role.
    • This is a physically-active role - staff should expect to be standing and moving approximately 95% of their shifts.The work includes cleaning the store (mopping, sweeping, cleaning restrooms, dusting), cleaning merchandise, moving boxes and merchandise repeatedly, pushing heavy carts, moving displays, etc.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather on a variety of tasks such as assisting donors as they remove items from their vehicles, removing trash from the store to exterior dumpsters, helping customers with merchandise and furniture pick-ups, light shoveling of snow from sidewalks, etc. This is a constant expectation of the role.


ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

Work is performed primarily in a retail thrift store environment. Exposure to varying temperatures in donation processing, storage, warehouse, and receiving areas. Occasional exposure to dust, odors, and used or donated items of varying condition. Various weather conditions from heat, cold, windy, rain and snow.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Frequent climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, walking, reaching, talking, hearing, grasping and finger dexterity, repetitive motions.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and 60 pounds in a team lift occasionally
  • Sitting approximately 5 percent of the time.
  • Standing approximately 60 percent of the time.
  • Walking approximately 35 percent of the time.
  • Requires the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force continuously.
  • Up to 50 pounds of force infrequently to lift or otherwise move objects.


VISION REQUIREMENTS:

Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
